Charter Arms revolver mishap

Post by 360glitch on Wed Jun 29, 2011 5:28 pm

A guy posted this on Sigtalk.com and I thought I'd share. First failure I've seen with a Charter Arms revolver.

My wife, a friend of ours, and I were at the range last Saturday and something bad happened. The good news is everyone is ok and no one was injured.

My wife contacted Charter Arms about it the following Monday. She was told they will replace it and they emailed her a fedex label to mail in the gun so they may check it for imperfections in case the batch of aluminum was bad and need to recall. She was told the new once should arrive within 2 weeks of them reviving her gun, which they should get today.

Good to hear no one was hurt. Looking forward to seeing how well CA handles this.

Not sure if you read the original thread that I linked to but the owner states that CA is going to inspect the gun and if the aluminum proves to be "bad" they are going to do a recall.

My wife and I both have a CA like that....will be interested to see the outcome.... I wonder about the ammo as well.... I've shot enough +P in mine to know it shoot well and accurate, then no more except for CC......

Most of the time ammo (reloads) is the culprit...it will be interesting to see what they find

Have never heard of a Charter blowing up before

One thing I'll say about em tho. If it is on them they will make it right. Some of the best customer service I've had came from charter. I wouldn't hesitate to own one of their guns

My CA is a SS frame. And is rated for +P ammo. I don't shoot +P in mine so maybe an isolated insident. It said that one was an aluminum frame. Didn't say what ammo but: Aluminum frame + Hot reloads or (+P ammo)= BAD JUJU

I had an Egyptian Helwan blow up on me. The whole top of the chamber blew off. It was the S&B ammo that was the culprit. S&B would not make it good. Navy Arms replaced the barrel and the pistol was AOK again.

The good thing about handgun mishaps, usually the shooter is not injured. The spectators can be hurt more easily. Here is a photo of a Navy Arms Schofield that was double loaded. Navy Arms repaired this pistol with no charge.

I believe the firearms have a great deal of safety built into them. They will take pressures much higher than factory loads. Ammo is probably 90% of the problem with blowups. I have seen commercial ammo that was overloaded. PMC 6.5x55. for instance.

Was on a forum where a guy had a Sig if I recall. Spent big money on a Sig and bought some cheap ammo. Sig checked it out and found no defects, referred him to the ammo people. Course they were out of business. Little store he bought it and the ammo from wouldn't make it right. I don't care for sueing people but they should have backed the products they sold.

Glad every is OK. I have gun friends that have toured the CA factory. They seem like the little company that just keeps plugging along. Hats off to them. If I wanted the type guns they offer.. I would buy one.
