4895 powder?????
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me who made this powder? I got some 308 reloads with this powder. Its says charge 44 so im quessing that is 44 grains. Its loaded in lake city match brass. You cant hear any powder when u shake so im quessin they filled the brass up with stuffing or something.
I am not goin to shoot this ammo. Im goin to pull the bullets and reload with my own powder. I was just curious about what the powder was and how hot of a load that was and what they mite have loaded these for hunting or target?

Not sure Scott but erroring on the save side is always the best bet.

IMR and Hogdon makes 4895, and a 308 with 44 grains seems about right. look up the load data with the bullets. i would pull 1 to weigh the bullet and charge.

Re: 4895 powder?????
I'd pull em all...pour the powder in the flower bed and start over
There's only about 4 people on this earth whose reloads I'd shoot
U don't hear the powder shakin most likely because the case is pretty full...That means nothing per se...
Most of my rifle loads fill the case pretty well...That's as it should be

My load with 4895 and a 168 gr bullet was 41.5 gr. If the bullet is 150 gr 44 would be about right.

I agree, there's only 2 people I know whose reloads I will shoot. Unless you know and can trust the reloader, dump the powder and start over. NEVER fire someone else's reloads if you have any doubts. It isn't worth the risk to you and your firearm.

... as stated before -- IMR and Hogdon both markets 4895; I would NOT shoot 'em -- save the bullets and brass ... IMHO

Follow the advise of msredneck and pull them all. If you have doubts, it's your common sense alarm going off!!! Don't take the chance! They may good loads but are you for sure??? The life you save may be your own.

I agree. You should not shoot those. Pull 'em and reuse the bullets and brass. It's not worth the risk to you or your firearm. If it's the IMR 4895 powder, it's an excellent choice for that round. It's what I use in my .223, .308, & .30-06 reloads for my AR-15, M1A, and M-1 Garands.

Actually there are three 4895's H4895, IMR4895, and surplus 4895. The surplus has probably all dried up by now buy you never know.
