Buying ammo online

Post by Yanker1 on Thu Jul 14, 2011 8:51 pm

Any shipping restrictions for the Ridgeland/Jackson area? About to buy some bulk ammo and been looking online but haven't found any restrictions or laws against it. Just wanted to confirm before I hit the submit button.

There are no Mississippi laws against it, but I don't know about local laws for your area.

+1 not sure if cities can regulate it---I doubt it.

I've ordered 1,000 rounds and had it delivered before.

You will likely have to sign for receipt the delivery (by an adult). They won't typically leave it at your door.

I've ordered several times online and had it shipped to me with no problems. It helps if you know the UPS man too.

Never had a problem or ever knew anyone did. Like 'Neck said, load that UPS man down. And as NRA said, you'll need an adult to sign or will have to go down to the UPS station on McDowell.
M1 is right, knowing your route driver has it's perks. Missed my driver one afternoon and called to say I'd come pick it up. Fella came back through to check if I was home. That's good service.

Only 1,000 rounds?? rotflmao
Ha my UPS guy laughs when he hauls out the big wooden cases "I wonder what's in these?" ...
And you're right, an adult will have to sign.

Some businesses require a scan of a photo ID to prove the purchaser's age. As a matter of fact, I believe it is a Federal Regulation.

There are places online that require you to supply them a D.L. to purchase...I just elect to not do business with em

I was a dealer for 12 years and it is against the law to not require a photo ID showing age.

It is not unusual for our UPS driver to deliver stuff and just leave it at our door. He knows us well.

The FedEx guy, on the other hand, delivered my package (a camera---not ammo) to the correct house number but on the wrong street yesterday. That happens fairly often.

Thanks everyone have a starting pack of 1000 rounds of assorted calibers coming in. I know that Mississippi doesn't allow AP rounds, does this this include the M855 green tip rounds?

AP ammunition

Post by Scharfschütze on Sun Jul 17, 2011 9:59 pm

I believe the restriction on AP rounds is for AP handgun rounds. The original rationale for the ban of steel-cored 7.62x39mm ammunition was that AK "pistols" were being sold, and the steel-cored ammunition was AP, ergo it was AP handgun ammunition, which the BATF (no E yet back in the 1980s) had banned by fiat as "non-sporting" because it would penetrate their vests when they came for a visit. Yes I know there are AR-type pistols and no I have no idea why the BATFE hasn't tried to apply this criteria regarding steel-cored 7.62x39 to the M855 green-tip (steel-cored) ammunition. The BATF did use this criteria in the 1990s (ca. 1998?) to ban East German 9x18mm ammunition ("Makarov") because it has a mushroom-shaped steel core which is designed to penetrate body armor. Cole's Distributing had imported pallets of it, sold a lot - some in Mississippi even bought cases roll eyes - when the BATF swooped in and confiscated ALL of Cole's inventory. A two-part series on the EG Makarov was published in the German gun magazine Deutsches Waffenjournal, part two was on all the different variants of ammo for the EG 9x18mm, complete with cutaway fotos of the AP ball ammo which was issued to everyone carrying the EG Makarov. It appears the BATF read the article. ANYWAY Cole's lost their inventory over that, but there is still a lot in circulation / storage. Wink

The M855 is not classified as AP -- neither is the M2 AP 30.06 -- both legal to own and possess within this state!!
