Did a Rip Van Winkle...
Well not really but I have been out of the loop for about twelve years. During that time I haven't kept up with progress in the area of non-hunting arms. The last big thing I was waiting for was the introduction of the announced but delayed Glock 36. I, under duress, sold several pistols over the past decade. I'm down to a Glock 21, a Beretta 92FS and a Browning Buckmark.
A couple of weeks ago I put in for my Concealed Carry Permit. The same day I picked up an S&W Airweight .38 because it was a good deal and small enough to conceal. I plan to get my Wife a permit and hand this pistol down to her soon. Meanwhile I'm contemplating what I might want. I'm torn between a very concealable LCP or LC9 and getting the Glock 36 I've been wanting for over ten years for. I like .45s but wonder if the bulk might be too much for me to carry on a routine basis.
Opinions?

If you haven't looked around for several years, You are in for a treat.
45's are now sometimes smaller that the older 9mm's

First of all, I feel your pain. I sold off most of mine many years ago and have been rebuilding the past couple of years.
What you carry is up to you. It has a lot to do with what you wear every day, what sort of environment you work in, etc.
In the winter or on days that I wear a sportcoat, I can conceal a .45 or any other full size. In summer, the pocket .380 or airweight .38 usually gets carried, unless I can wear an untucked shirt.
That being said, there are quite a few compact 45's out there now.

Well the good news is you have three good pistols. Bad news is none are good for carry. Getting that .38 was a good choice, especially for your wife. I really like that LC9 even though I own an LCP. Too hot to carry a heavy gun as Miker said, a 9 with some good ammo should be good choice. Look around, if you've been out of the loop for 12 years, everythings changed. Get out there and see what you like and try some different ammo for your pick. I really like the glock 19 but it's a personal choice.

I'm thinking maybe the LCP now and a Glock 36 or compact 1911 later. I figure I rarely wear a jacket even in winter time. So, something that can go anywhere, anytime, now. But, I just love the idea of a .45 if the fit hits the shan.

Re: Did a Rip Van Winkle...
i carry a glock 27 with shorts and t shirt no problem. so a subcompact glock is not to big in my opinion. i had a lcp and i liked the size but i DID NOT LIKE the trigger, its good for what its designed for but i like a pistol where i can hit what i am aiming at.

I've had bout a dozen Glocks since they 1st came out, although they never 'grew on me'...the one I kept is the G36. Good compact .45acp, and it won't bother me if it gets bounced on the van floorboard or something.

What's a Glock 36 going for now?

Edit: Price will likely be a deciding factor.

I'm also considering a Glock in .357sig instead. I had a pair of Sigs in 357 (228? And 239? can't remember the model #s) but had to let them go. Times were tight and I wanted a hunting rifle and scope. I'm quiet fond of this cartridge and I think a jam is next to impossible with it. I'd probably pick up a .40s&w barrel for casual target practice being the .357 ammo is almost defiantly more expensive.

Re: Did a Rip Van Winkle...
I love the Glock pistol and tote them regularly. The glock 36 seems to have more problems than any other glock. Friend of mine has one and it will only feed rounds that have a nose built like roundball. I do carry a 33 at times and you can not go wrong with this weapon. The reason I went with the 33 is I figure the sig cartridge should have around the same velocity as a longer barreled 9mm para.

It's fun to "window shop" I guess I'll get out, maybe this Saturday and lay hands on one to remind myself of the feel and to see if I find them concealable to my standards.
I've got some things, Amazing Spiderman#129 (first Punisher) and a .30-'06 Encore Barrel, I'll have to sell before I can buy something.

A full size .45 with a 4" or shorter barrel carries well in an IWB holster, fitsthe hand well and is not punishing to fire.

I agree...you have three fine pistols! I have a 92FS and have carried it concealed, but it's like concealing a nine-pound sledge hammer. You've got to plan ahead with the wardrobe! I've carried the S&W 442 for years; it's a great front-pocket concealed pistol. Using a front pocket holster keeps it from imprinting. I've also bought a Glock 19; seems like a good feeling handgun -- large enough to shoot well and small enough to conceal with the right clothing.

Agreed, stock Glock sites are pretty lame.

Have a great pair of night sights on my Kimber, but now have second thoughts. They do not work well until it is real dark. When it is this dark I cannot identify my target or verify the background. One shot and my night vision is too far gone for a second shot - go ahead and try it - fire a shot at night and then try to see your night sights.
I am now leaning strongly toward fiber optics - will work in low light such as parking lot lights. Anything darker I will use my flashlight or turn the lights on.

I've got a G36 that I bought in 2000. It's got a fiber optic front sight and a ghost ring rear sight. The only thing it won't feed is the Speer Gold Dot bullets. The hollow point on these is huge and they hang up.

I decided on a LCP now and I think either I'll replace my P239 in .357sig next, I miss that one more than most that I've had, or maybe get a compact 1911.
