Calibrating electronic scales

Post by sidroski on Wed Jul 20, 2011 12:21 am

I have a Hornady scale that came with a 100 gr. weight. Someone needed the weight more than me.
What do you all use to calibrate your electronic scales? Use beam scales to prove each other or is there somewhere I can get a 100 gr. weight to do it with?

You can order check weights. I imagine all the big reloading supply places carry them. You might could get it direct from Hornady as well.

Check weights

electronic scales stink...They seem to need to be calibrated often....I don't trust it..I only weigh bullets on a electronic

powder charges go on a 10-10 RCBS which I trust

i recalibrate my electronic one everytime i use it. It doesnt take but a second to do. I also double check against my beam scale on occasion.

I usually check my $30.00 MTM digital against my RCBS balance scale to validate it before loading a batch. It was off last week (before I loaded 308). I went through the calibration process and it wouldn't pass. Called the mfg and they said to send it in for repair. I just chunked it and bought another one.

and the electronic scale you bought will do the same thing

I have owned about 10 electronic scales...they all suck if you want precision rifle charges

Agreed. The good ol beam scale is looking better everyday for measuring stuff that could blow up. Smile

I saw some check weights on the wall at surplus city last week. Bottom left corner. I use an ohaus 505 scale made in the sixties. I check it with an RCBS beam scale. Electronic scales will teach you the difference between accuracy and precision.

So I bought both a Lee safet scale (beam) and a "Smartloader" digital scale. Using a 3.6gn on the digital, I get 3.9gn on the beam. Max load is 3.8gn... this sucks. I am ready to switch to heavier powder.

My RCBS digital scale is a P.O.S.
