My oldest boy has one and loves it. Neat little rifle but the sights are a little rough.

I know that there are two different versions, one with a goofy built in lock and one without. You may want the one with the lock, but if so be sure to look into how it works. Most people are not a fan.

Crickett builds adult, target, and bull barrel versions too. Never seen any of them though.

Was trying to find a Cricket for my SIL to buy for grandson. I guess most want to buy their children their first firearm and most people will not get rid of firearm their father gave to them.
Good learning platform for a kid but good luck finding a used one.

Re: cricket 22
I always wanted one but decided on a 10/22 instead, bought the 10/22 for $87 cause I at 10+- years old didn't have the other $3 and was bawling with tears and my pops wouldnt give me $3 so the dealer at the gunshow felt sorry for me so he sold it to me at 10 years old for $87, then someone stole it from us back in the day

I've never shot one but the ones I've looked at seemed decent. Walmart was selling them for $108. Not sure what their current price is.

If you can find an Anschutz Woodchucker........

Don't know what they go for now, but this one was $124 NIB years ago. It's a 5 shot repeater built on their M64 action. One hole groups at 25 yards are the norm with Ultimate EPS. With regular ammo it will put 5 into a spot about the size of a 9mm hole in the target.

Re: cricket 22
When I started my Daughter's shooting career, I bought a Remington 511-P bolt action .22. I removed the buttplate and drilled 2-1/4" holes 3" deep into the rear of the stock. I then cut 2" off the stock with a table saw. I put another buttplate on it and saved the 2" piece. This made a GREAT youth sized .22 rifle. It had a decent trigger and a peep sight.
My Daughter is 24 now and I have long since refitted the 2" piece of buttstock, by gluing and inserting 2-2.5" wooden dowels into the pre-drilled holes. She now has a useable .22 rifle and not a rifle that is too short for her to do anything with. The rifle also has a 5 shot box magazine.
I would never buy a Cricket. Most of them have terrible triggers and poor sights. The 511-P has the capability of hitting the 10 ring of a Standard 3 position NRA target at 50 yards.

There are several pawn shops in the Philadelphia area. You should be able to pick up an old single shot for around $100 to $125 especially if you fix it up yourself.

It would be worth the wait. Frequent the gun shows and Pawn Shops. I have won a 4 Position rifle match with this one against Anchutz 64 & Model 10 rifles. It is amazing how accurate it is. Remington also made a single shot called a Model 510 and a tube magazine model 512. There is also a Remington Model 514 single shot but the safety is more difficult to operate on that model and the triggers are usually not as good. I don't like the tube magazine rifles as well as I do the box magazine and single shot rifles.

A couple of weeks ago Swann's Gun Repair, (601)957-7829 on Old Canton Rd in Jackson had a Remington 510. I started to buy it as a project. I think it was $100. It needed a good cleaning and the stock refinished.

Good for you sir. If you should get a cricket or chipmunk, you will not be disappointed. I have bought them for four of my grandkids and have been really surprised with their accuracy, even with a very bad trigger pull.
Best to you.
