if you wet sand with 1000 grit auto sandpaper then buff with a good paste wax after last coat of tung oil dries it will be slick as glass. Just make sure tung oil is good and dry and go light with the sandpaper and heavy with the water, a spritzer helps.

Looking good sir. Anyway you look at it, it is just plain hard to beat a pre-safety marlin for a good solid rifle. I just can't see me ever selling mine, will just leave it to one of my grandsons.
