Do PMs sit in your outbox until they are read?

Do PMs sit in your outbox until they are read?

I have successfully responded to one PM but I've got two others I've tried to send that are just sitting there. One I initiated the other is a response. I know in one of the two cases the member has been online since the message was sent. Maybe he just didn't check his messages or could I just be doing it wrong?

I think they sit there until they are read. I've sent messages to people twice thinking that something was wrong with my PM.

They stay in the outbox until they are read.
