Oddball Marlin
Picked this up at a pawn shop today. First one of these I've ever seen. It's a 1967 Marlin 336 in .30-30 that was made for Cotter & Co. and is called the Westpoint Model 33. This was a hardware company that evolved into True Value Hardware. The configuration they ordered from Marlin is a strange combination. It has the standard pistol grip stock but has the brass saddle ring of the straight grip 336T. It has a carbine length barrel but the rifle type fore end cap instead of the carbine style band. It has a carbine type band at the front sight but it is in front of the sight instead of behind it as most are. It's obviously been used very little. The bluing is 100% even around the end of the barrel. The stock has a couple of small dents but no scratches. I didn't need another .30-30 and was leaving the store but went back and got it. I've got no willpower!

That's definitely cool! Never seen one quite like it. I've gotta say, I'm fond of the rifle fore-end cap on the carbine length barrel, it just looks right to me.

Wow, that is one clean Marlin to be that old, what I most like about it is it lacks those ugly white line spacers around the grip cap and
butplate.
butplate.

The history channel will probably have a show for you before long- "The Mississippi Gun Picker".
That's a really nice rifle. I agree with 45flattop regarding the absence of the white spacers.

Just an all around good looking rifle. I really wish i could find one like that in .357 ( at a reasonable cost)

Re: Oddball Marlin
That is an oddity. I think all the saddle ring "marlins" had 16.5" barrels, not to mention the straight grips.
