CCW question: Carrying in New Orleans
A group of friends and I are going to the WW2 museum in N.O. . Not worried about the museum itself but afterwards will be walking around the area to go to lunch, sightsee, etc. We won't be going back to the vehicle until we actually leave the area, so if I do CC I would have to do so from the time we arrive. Anyone ever CC in the museum itself, or know if they have a policy against CC? Any thoughts as to pros / cons of carrying while there? IIRC Louisiana has reciprocity with MS. I'd feel safer in N.O. if I was carrying.

never actually been in the museum, but i've been in the area several times and i never go without packing. i seriously doubt they will have metal detectors going into the museum. i'd plan on packing and if, for some reason, you get turned away from the museum, just put it back in the car until you get through at the museum. there is ample parking right near the museum, so you wouldn't have to walk more than 100 yards or so to retrieve your gun when leaving the museum.

Haven't been there again since it first opened; I recall having to park about a block or 2 away. If we're that close it won't be a problem either way.

i was down there about 3 months ago and i thought i remembered seeing a parking area either behind or across the street from the museum. i do remember there were a few tour buses parked together there, so i'm assuming it was a parking lot type area. i could be wrong.

I don't remember any metal detectors when I went last year. They are bringing in some pieces of the Atlantic wall pock marked from allied fire on D-Day.

Went last summer (before I received permit) and there were not any metla detectors. I did not look for weapon signs though. As for carry in N.O., LEO's I've spoken to jsut said to make sure ya have your permit and don't go into any bars........

Not hitting any bars . . . just the museum, lunch (probably Mother´s), maybe a couple of shops.

We go to N.O. at least once a month if not more for Bodie's medical needs.
I carry concealed everywhere, even the hospital. Don't go into bars.

"When I goes to Looziana, I alwayz carries me a pistol. When I goes to New Orleans I carries two! "

CCW question: Carrying in New Orleans UPDATE Mission Accomplished
Everything went smoothly, museum visit, lunch at Mother´s, drove down to river & had beignet and cafe au lait at the Cafe du Monde. Rainy and muggy all day, wore a polo shirt untucked and that sufficed to "conceal". No problems. The guy I rode down there with didn´t even notice, until I got hot on the way home and took it off. He knows I have a CCW, he just laughed. I had become worried that the Dept. of Homeland Security guys ( passed by 3 parked SUVs of them, each about 50 yds apart, on the way to Mother´s) might look at me too closely but they didn´t. Wondered why they were down there, though. Guess to keep us safe from "home grown terrorists". Anyway, good practice, and "Ende gut, alles gut"! /all´s well that ends well.

I'd hate to leave mine in a vehicle ANYWHERE in New Orleans.Scharfschütze wrote:Haven't been there again since it first opened; I recall having to park about a block or 2 away. If we're that close it won't be a problem either way.

Last I checked, the museum itself was all for CCW with a permit, but they do ask that you keep your firearm concealed.
