24/7 USPSA holster recommendations...
A slight change in recent events has me headed to USPSA shooting here soon. The wife says I can't buy a new pistol yet, so I am planning on using my Taurus 24/7 to start. Any suggestions on holsters for my pistol and mags? I will be running the Production competitions for now (I'll see you guys out at Magnolia in a few weeks/months). I can find tons of rigs if I was running a M&P, a 1911, or a Glock, but nothing for my "inexpensive."
Does anyone know a local shop (in the Jackson area) that would carry stuff for my 24/7? I would rather try the feel out before I spend the $$$.

You might can find a blackhawk serpa around here for your 24/7 but I wouldn't recommend those for competition use. Most production shooters around here are running Blade-tech dropped off-set holsters. Blade-tech does offer a holster for your 24/7, but I would expect at least a months wait to get it.
I started out using a comp-tac belt holster and mag pouches made specifically for my gun. Their turn around time is pretty quick, and they offer a "kit" for 100$. Comes with a holster and one double mag pouch made for your gun. Comp-tac makes good stuff, and I liked the holster a lot. If you are just getting in to it, and are just feeling things out to see what you like and what you need, the comp-tac setup is a good way to start.
The most common setup you will see around here for production shooters is a blade-tech dropped off-set holster, CR speed Belt, and 4-5 CR speed versa mag pouches. That setup will run you in the 300$ range. I personally would wait until you have shot some matches and have an idea of what you want and need before jumping all the way in to that. The great thing about the CR speed mag pouches is that they are basically universal, and can be adjusted to fit the mags for all the common guns you see in USPSA production.
If you wanted the absolute cheapest you can get, You could probably find a fobus holster and mag carriers online, and that would tide you over.

Thanks Myers! Though I am just getting into it, I am not planning on going the cheap route. (You are correct, I don't plan on doing the $300 buck route quite yet either).
I noticed that Blade-tech has a combo kit of a holster and twin mag pouches for about 10 bucks less than Comp-tac. It doesn't look like the drop/offset rig though. Any thoughts?
Turn around time is not that big of an issue. I don't see myself hitting the matches till Oct/Nov, and perhaps later (though I hope not). I was always taught, "If you are going to do something, don't half-ass it and get it done right the first time!" I don't want to spend $40-75 just to be cheap and end up replacing everything in a few months. I do plan on attending a match w/o competing first to "get a feel" of things.
The plan is to keep and compete with the 24/7 for while.

Shoot a couple matches then decide on gear. Magnolia usually has a loaner gun and holster...probably a Glock 17...talk to Cliff
+1 on the bladetech

The blade-tech IDPA pack/combo kit would work well, but I'm not sure what the lead time on those is like. If it's their injection molded stuff, then it might be pretty quickly, but since lead time isn't an issue, that would be a great choice. Me personally? I would still choose the comp-tac over the blade-tech for this reason. The holsters are not really an issue, they might as well be the same. They both have straight drop/neutral cant, and are made from kydex. The mag pouches however, I prefer Comp-tac's design over blade-techs. Because I feel like I personally get a better grab on the magazines from comp-tacs design than I do from pouches designed similarly to blade-tech's. Comp-tac is cut lower, and the way the pouches are built, it's easier (at least for me) to get better control of the magazine before actually pulling it out of the pouch. YMMV

Thats what I wanted to know! Now that I hear about a loaner rig, I may try that out for at least one match, just to see what everyone else has before I drop any cash.
I like how the Comp-tac mag pouches are set a little farther apart as well. Helps my fumbling fingers to find the stop! At least now I can go ahead and get a few spare mags and a couple more boxes of ammo. Do you guys reload or just buy out of the box ammo for these shoots?

I still buy factory ammo, but most people who do it regularly reload. Even buying cheap WWB, you can still do way better rolling your own. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm still upgrading equipment lol.

That'll have to be step two of my overall process!
Step one...shoot something...
Step two...reload! Pun intended.
I really appreciate the info. I hope to be out there soon!

It you are gonna shoot USPSA an do any kind of regular practice...better figure on reloading sooner rather than than later...
Several hundred rounds a week...every week adds up pretty quick.
Dry fire practice helps a ton on muscle memory...especially for seasoned shooters but IMHO newbies really gotta shoot live ammo
While not as bad as Centerfire F class...it aint a cheap game...
If I was looking at reloading for USPSA...something with Dillon on it is needed.
I have a complete USPSA production Glock 17 or 34 (if that turns you on), lots of mags, bladetech holster CR speed belt, and mag holders if you are interested...Cliff has pics...its all grade A
Just my 2 cents
Good Luck and Have fun

I take it you mean your Glock setups are for sale versus being a loaner setup?? If so, I may look you up later as I become a bit more..umm....experienced. LOL. I may be a while from getting EVERYTHING together, we shall see.
My former hobby bit the dust at the moment. So I am headed to shoot. Reloading is not new to me (but I don't have any equipment at the moment). Tell you guys what: next time I can make it to the range when ya'll shoot, we can all talk. I probably could benefit from watching once or twice and talking with you guys in person. I don't have $500-1000 to spend yet to get a whole setup. My money will have to be spent on the basic additions and a BUNCH of 9mm.
Really, you hit the nail on the head here. I just want to shoot more and that is having fun in my book!

If you're not in a rush you might wanna shop around for some used mag pouches and a belt. Sometimes you can find killer deals.
If bladetech has to custom make a holster, like they had to for me since I'm a lefty, it will be six weeks.

I am not in a big rush. I will be slowly aquiring everything I need. Do you know of some good places to find used equipment besides on this forum??
PS If anyone knows of any used CR Speed belts and mag pouches, send me a PM as I more than likely will be interested in finding something less pricey than brand new.

Hey JK think we spoke last weekend at the range, pretty sure you have to log in to view the classifieds on Enos forum. I saw a 38" competition belt on GB for 25 bucks..good luck.
PS, Ebay!
PSS, you could check with Triple Crown Holsters he might be able to make you one for your 24/7

I am glad I went! I hate to sign up to a forum just to buy something, but I spent a few minutes and will probably try to hop on there once in a while. I hear you need to buy your belt a few sizes bigger. I normally wear 32-33 pants. Should I get a 34, 36, or 38 belt??
