My first build

Post by jsthntn247 on Mon Aug 01, 2011 1:41 pm

I've been wanting to build my own rifle for a while and finally decided to go ahead with it. I used my old Savage 110 action and decided to stay with 7mag since I already had brass and dies. Bill's Custom guns in Shelby Ms threaded the barrel and headspaced it. I bedded the duramaxx stock with devcon, painted the barrel, action, and stock with duracoat, and installed a Rifle Basix trigger that breaks clean at 2 pounds. I got the muzzle brake off RWS from here and it kicks like a .223 now. Here she is, shot her for the first time today, and I'm awful proud. Called a flinch on the 4th shot as soon as I pulled the trigger. Got $450 in the rifle total.

very nice, looks to be a shooter too.
congrats on a nice gun.
Just noticed- if i remember correctly that is the exact load i had worked up in my 7mag. COAL is slightly different for my load i think.

Sweet setup, Bill and Tim do awesome work, I've used them for years. It looks like it shoots as good as it looks too.

Measured the 4 shot hole last night. Outside to outside minus .284 would have been a .186" group. Not bad. Always a flier in the bunch . Smile

Your GOOD LOOKING build looks like you could give those F-Class boys a run for their $$$$$.

0.186" at 10 YARDS seems kind of easy....... Joking, but you didn't list the distance...... Smile

WOW.... almost 70gr of powder per shot. Being mainly a handgun ammo reloader, that is A LOT...... Smile
