Re: paper work
Everything you need paperwork wise is on the dept of public safety's website. It looks like a lot, but 2 pages of it won't apply to you, and a good portion of it is just
so as I recall, there were only 2 or 3 short pages to fill out! Not nearly as daunting as people make it out to be!
Then you'll need a passport style photo...I just cropped a photo of me from the shoulders up on my desktop, and made sure it fit in the picture outline provided on the paperwork, and taped or glued it on
Then you'll need your paperwork notarized
Then you'll need $132 and 45 days worth of patience!
If I were you I'd also be trying to get into a course to get the new endorsement so you could carry on campus!!!!!!!!!!!! See the HB 506 section above for details
And welcome to our world Ree! I didn't think it'd be such a big deal, but I've apparently started a trend among my friends...I've had quite a few apply for their permits in the year since I received mine
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, it's all listed pretty much on the DPS website

1st off, contact your local Dept. of Public Safety office, (Highway Patrol), and ask when they accept applications. Here in Jackson, they only accept them 1 or 2 days a week. You can dounload an application from their website.

You'll also need a passport quality photo (try your local drug store).

I'm assuming you'll go to Batesville, which is Mondays. Get there EARLY and things will go quickly.

Re: paper work
Note that your signature on some of the forms must be notarized. Usually somebody at your bank is a Notary Public and will do that.
I assume that she will have to wait until she is actually 21 to submit her application.

Re: paper work
I applied in New Albany. They do theirs on Wednesday unless they have chanaged in the last couple of years. I do remember Batesville was closed for a holiday that Monday so I went to New Albany that Wednesday because I was on vacation that week.Eaglestroker wrote:I'm assuming you'll go to Batesville, which is Mondays. Class? What class?
Is the state requiring a class now for a CCW permit?
We don't need no stinkin' class.

well in the previous posts they were talking about carrying on campus and you need the new sticker to carry on campus and my question was if she took the class before she had the original permit if the class would count. I KNOW you DONT have to have a class to get a permit. but for the inhanced permit you do.

What is the enhanced permit? Sounds like all animals are equal but some are more equal to me.

Re: paper work
Earlier this year the Legislature passed a bill amending the concealed carry laws allowing for an "enhanced" permit, that allows carrying in several previously prohibited places including churches, polling stations, courthouses and some others. In order to receive the extra endorsement you have to take a basic level 8 hour handgun course. It's not a requirement to get the endorsement, it's considered "extra" and doesn't cost anything extra save for paying for whatever the course may cost. Otherwise your plain permit will run you 132$ and 45 days. I don't believe you can submit until you actually turn 21

Yeah read the HB506 sticky in this subforum. It's a LOT to read, but to get the most out of it I'd read it all, and really reading the links along with it wouldn't hurt!
Myers just gave you a pretty good summary
