Post by Cliff Cargill on Tue Aug 09, 2011 10:56 pm

Set-up will begin promptly by 7:00 AM. ALL in-town shooters are expected to be there for set-up, as we will have the shooter's meeting by 7:45 AM, so the match can start at 8:00 AM to beat the heat.

All shooters are expected to help in tear-down.

Just about everyone has been great on set-up the last few months. Let's keep it going. We dont want to beat anyone up over the work issue, but please be kind to your fellow shooters. Many hands make light work.

5 stages

125 rounds (bring more just in case)

$5.00 Entry

Limited Centerfire

Open Centerfire

.22 Rimfire Iron Sights

.22 Rimfire Open Sights

Come shoot with us! Perfect match for new shooters. Come on, new shooters....give it a try. We'll help you get started. Members as well as the club have loaner gear available.

Who all is in?

Plan to make it!

Unless something "critical" comes up I will be there. 07:00 sounds early but then you think about the heat later in the day and it is worth it to not sleep in. Anyway its better than getting up at 05:00 on weekdays to go to work.

I am not experienced competing with anything less than 3 feet in length. I welcome any input and suggestions from the seasoned handgun competitors as I have started this short gun stuff late in life.

Will_M, Going on one last minute adventure before the M.E. grind starts again next week? Joel left today for a headstart on the A.E. grind.

Yeah, I'm still really bummed about missing the Classifier Match, but an intestinal bug made it impossible for me to compete. All is well now and I might even have some new rounds loaded with my 550 to try out.

Yeah I figured id better make the trip while I can.

For you first time out, focus on hitting the steel with one shot each and you'll be auprised on how high you finish.

It was a blast as always! Weather was great for a little while before starting to warm up. 5 stages shot and torn down before 11:30, WOW! That's great. Thanks to all who contributed!

Thanks to all those who came out in this heat. We were shooting by 8:15 and done packed up way before noon.

Great job on all the help from set-up, to tear-down, scoring, helping new shooters and more!!! You're the ones who deserve the credit.

Next Match is ICORE this Sunday, and semi-autos are welcome.

Try it!

Post by atomicbrh on Sun Aug 14, 2011 5:32 pm

This was my first Outlaw Steel Match and it was a great experience. A lot of fun packed into a short amount of time. It humbled me that I shot 140 rounds in what was supposed to be a 125 round Match. That's 15 misses plus two penalties for missing my followup shots on two targets on the largest and closest stage. I hope to do better next time even though I am getting up in age now.

When you are a newbie and shoot the Handgun competitions at Magnolia you do not feel like the Lone Ranger. The regulars make you feel like you are on the same team. When you get in the box you feel that everyone is pulling for you to do your best.

Thanks to Danny, Bud, Jimmy and all the other experienced guys on my squad for the advice not only on safety procedures but technique. I feel like I got about $500 worth of education in four hours for my $5 entry fee.

I suggest that everyone in this area try one of the Handgun Competitions at Magnolia. The regulars will let you borrow gear if you do not have anything suitable. Just put a post on this forum if you need to borrow gear for a Match. You do not even have to have a holster if you are a newbie. They will show how to start from what they call "Low Ready".

You cannot beat having the results posted on this website the same day either. That was great!

That's what it's all about. Sharing "our" sport to make it "your" sport too!!! I am glad I could help and I am willing to help anyway I can to whomever I can. Just ask!!!! I hope we can keep getting new shooters to come out and enjoy this great sport, tell all your friends, kids, grandkids or spouse and bring them with you next time. The more people we have, the bigger and stronger our sport and club gets. Great shooting with you and hope to see you often!

Jimmy "msshooter" thumbs up
