Yep -- may not be worth their weight in GOLD; however, they may be more useful than GOLD one day!!

Re: Poor man's gold
no, no, no, boyz... these are the big mammas. five-0.
...should have thrown a quarter on the floor for perspective.
my plinking/general purpose load is:
647gr. GI bullets
cci #35 primer
220gr. IMR-5010
The army data manual says they use a 235 gr charge, but I've always heard they were a little hot, no problem for the the M2's but my walther match barrel, and my shoulder likes 220, so they are loaded down a little. Its feels good with has no pressure signs. There is no good load data out there for anything but the newer powders and $2 match bullets so when using GI surplus components we have to test, check, and make notes. Never chronoed it but my guess is its somewhere around 2600fps.
Some of you guys pulled the trigger on some of these before...remember?

Don't have a rifle to shoot them out of...but always wanted to have the stuff to load some up. That strange or what?

That might seem strange to others, but that has been my "want" also.....
I too have thought about reloading 50 BMG, but with the special press and dies (and LOTS of powder) required has "stopped" me......

Re: Poor man's gold
Military surplus powders are the cheapest to load with. IMR-5010 and WC-860. I got mine from patsreloading.
I've never hunted with my gun but I have heard that its doable and seen some elk on video being taken with them. It is a myth that the 50 makes soft things explode into bits. There is the famous you tube video of some "insurgents" exploding into mist on the opposite side of a valley, but turns out they were actually ground hogs shot with high velocity varmint rifles from a hunting video. The ball/ap/api bullets will just go straight through everything soft just like a .30 will, except with a bigger hole. Even the incendiaries will not go off unless they hit something hard like metal plate.
Now, when they come out with a hollow point varmint 50 bullet that might be another story.

Nice Brass....
The way Dillon is pimping their Big 50 press you'd think everyone had a 50
