i was sooooo close to the v-bob for graduation, but in the end opted for the browning hi-power because I have 2 1911s, and just wanted something different. a v-bob is still on my shortlist

+1 for Springfield if you're going to buy an off the shelf pistol. If not, cherry pick parts and bring them to a 1911 smith that has a good rep. and let him custom fit the parts together to fit your needs. You'll most likely get more bang for your buck this way. BTW, I see you're in Oxford stay away from Pontotoc American Arms.

Curiosity with the 1911 is going to end up being very expensive for you, I promise
That said, I agree with those that say to go with a stock gun for carry. My dad has an old Colt series 70 that is completely awesome. Ultimately, get what you want. To be completely honest, it's hard to go wrong with most of the 1911's available in today's market. Have fun and good shooting!

Once again I'll have to suggest the Taurus PT1911. I'm sure that'll create some conflict but mine has been perfect. It'll shoot anything I feed it & was dead on right out of the box. Plus, its loaded with features that would normally cost a small fortune. In others words, its decked out like a Cadillac with the price of a chevette.....Haha
It's a good gun no matter what any body says....

Yes, Yes but for less $$$ you can get a RIA that is more than proven and damn near cant find a negative word about it so I'd have to go that route......Jus say'n...

1911s
As a lot of you, I love the 1911. Bills Custom Automatics in Shelby, Ms is as good a pistolsmith as anyone in the country. From scratch built to customizing a factory gun, they do it all. They have built and maintained 1911s for some of the top competitive shooters in the country. Even if you chose a good factory gun, it needs to be tuned and broken in. Anything you chose to carry, should be shot and tried to prove functional reliability. As for stock vs custom, I personnaly carry the best I can afford. I want to have best equipment in the event. I carry a scratch built 1911. Its kinda like the argument for factory ammo vs reloaded. That one, I believe has already been settled by case law, I think. It didn't matter. Just another opinion.
