The Official HB506 Enhanced Carry Training and Endorsement Thread
I'm curious to see if we can keep this thread in one place with minimal commentary. My hope is that it can be of use to others.
Date of Training: Aug 12, 2011
Location: Rangemaster Memphis, TN
Class Name: Level 1 Handgun
Length: 8 hours with one hour lunch break. (also offered in two 4-hour nightly sections)
Cost: $99
Included in Cost: 4 hours of classroom, 4 hours of range time, ammo, and handgun (could have used own pistol but still $99)
Class Status:Passed Course with grade of 100 on written and 100 on shooting.
Endorsement Status: TBD
Notes/Class Content: This class is primarily aimed at TN residents who are seeking their TN Handgun Permit. The classroom portion covered basic handgun operation/safety, types of handguns, holster choice, ammo/caliber choice, basic grip/stance, legal ramifications, TN Firearms Laws, and general awareness techniques and crime statistics for the area. Classroom consisted of a live instructor and video from Tom Givens. The range portion consisted of 24 rounds (I think) of basic pistol operation (Glock 17). Targets were placed at varying distances and shots varied from one at a time to 2, 3, and 6 shot bursts. Later, there was a 50 round qualification also at varying distances with 21' being the maximum. There was no training for malfunction, only basic instruction to recognize misfires and squibs. The instructor made it very clear that this course was the bare minimum. The TN HP had a video portion covering the law and half of it seemed to be about the effects of alcohol. The video also stated that you should inform LEO that you have a permit and/or weapon at a traffic stop or that guns would be drawn
. Overall, I think the class was worth it and for those of us in North MS it is our only option at this time.

Good class! Leave your laser and holster at home. Bring your gun in its case; it's the only way they'll have it.

Have you all seen this web post on the MS Firearms Permit site?

As I understand, the training program MUST be approved by the MS DPS. Looks like maybe these instructors have approved programs, but the DPS does not say that they have approved them.

NRA-guy. Yep, we've seen it. The purpose of this thread is for people to list where they received training and describe the training. I thought readers of this forum might be interested in comparing the various courses.
At least one member of this forum has taken the Rangemaster class and received the endorsement. I'll be at the Batesville DPS station Monday morning to get mine. UncleMoss and 1bradnc were in the class too, so we'll see if any of us have any trouble getting our endorsements. If we do, then I'll break out the pitchforks and torches.

Re: The Official HB506 Enhanced Carry Training and Endorsement Thread
I took Clyde Morgan's class this week. It was broken up into two days. On Thursday night, we did the classroom section. Clyde kept it interesting and the time flew by. We did the range session Saturday at Sherman Hills. Even though it was HOT, we did quite a bit of shooting and even shot the MS LE qualification course. Safety was a major topic (as well it should be). Different methods of carry, weapons, situational awareness were several areas covered. Thought the class covered everything very well.
The class was a great group of guys that were very familiar with firearms and all shot extremely well. Especially the pastor. That guy is scary good.
There were a couple of guys from here in the class also.
I'm going to the Jackson office Monday morning for the endorsement. I hope the process is smooth and painless.
If you are in the Jackson area, contact Clyde Morgan 601-825-3971 and he will work with you to get a group together. It's a LOT cheaper than the one-on-one training.

Re: The Official HB506 Enhanced Carry Training and Endorsement Thread
Ten of us at Capitol Gun Club took the course from Cliff last Saturday. He came to the club, set everything up (benches, tables, rests, etc), taught the classroom portion and passed out a synopsis of MS gun laws prepared by an attorney, moved to the range and really worked with everyone.
He even brought an "assistant" who is also a certified NRA instructor. It was a great class. Very well done, and everyone "got something" out of it.
I went and got the enhancement Tuesday with no problems.
