45 colt muzzle flash

Here is a pic from today. I was shooting 300 gr 45 colt bullets behind 24 grs h110

ruger 45 colt / 45acp blackhawk

H110 always displays a lot of muzzle flash, as do most spherical powders.

That blast was so great it blew half your gun away (not in pic)......



That makes my hands hurt just looking at your picture.

mmm that big a muzzle flash says there is a good bit of powder not being burnt in your barrel

there is something designers put in powder to make it flash more so they can demonstrate how muzzle breaks work.. cant remember what its called though

I think the gun may have been moving faster than the bullet. it is there though. here is the next frame



here is another. it is not as good but caught a little flash way out there past the barrel

I load H110 in my .357 specifically for the impressive muzzle flash.

that much muzzle flash to me means a major loss of energy that should be used to push the bullet. i agree with Beladran on that one!! it was a great picture though.

dont really have a way to measure energy but i shot 3 different powders with 300 gr bullets this weekend......h110, 2400, and unique......h110 and 2400 felt the same recoil wise (unique was softer)

Could not tell a difference in accuracy either. h110 gave by far the biggest muzzle flash. in all honesty (please don't take this the wrong way) i am not to conerned with losing a little energy here. I was not hunting and was just punching paper for fun. the xtra muzzle flash just added to the enjoyment.

as long as it is accurate and gives enough recoil to let me know i am shooting a big bore i am ok. now if i was working up a hunting load it would be different

edit to say....i re-read my post and i am not trying to sound like a smart-aleck (kinda came off that way)......i am just saying i am loading for a loud bang, heavy flash, and big recoil with these 45 loads. guns are loud fire shooters anyway and sometimes it with alot of bang

If it's getting that big bullet out there accurately I wouldn't concern myself about muzzle flash.
