ICORE Revolver Match This Sunday, August 21st At Magnolia Rifle & Pistol Club...New Shooters & Semis Welcome!

Post by Cliff Cargill on Tue Aug 16, 2011 5:22 am

This Sunday morning (August 21) the Magnolia Rifle And Pistol Club will have the monthly ICORE match:

Set-up - 6:30AM

Shooter's meeting - 7:45

Match Starts - 8AM

Cost- Free for first timers, $15 for match fee, $10 for members of Team Magnolia.

Match: ICORE is somewhat like a USPSA, but not as complicated and is a little more straightforward when it comes to the designs of the courses. Easier to understand, if you will. Still a lot of fun, but perfect for the new shooter.

Equipment: Revolvers with at least 4 speedloaders/moonclips. Sturdy belt and holster that covers the triggerguard. Eye and ear protection and 125 rounds of ammunition.

If you would like to shoot a semi you are welcome to do so. You'll need 4 extra magazines. There is some semi and revolver loaner gear available. PM me for details.

Don't be shy. If you've ever wanted to try your hand at a pistol competition, this is the place to do it. We'll help you get started.

We've been having quite a few new shooters in recent months. Bring a friend!

Who all is in? drinks

The info I got from our good buddy Cliff says you need 4 reloads. I would assume that means there will be 5 stages 1 starting off loaded and then 4 reloads after that would make sense to me. Then again what do I know, this will be my first time at a match so I don't even have a clue what I'm doing lol.

You'll need 4 spare mags for a semi or 4 speed loaders for a revolver per stage plus the one you will already have in the gun. You can generally expect to do 1-2 reloads in most courses of fire for a semi, 2-3 for a revolver depending on the course. That number 4 or even number 5 is what I personally consider to be an "oh Sh@!" magazine.

Let's assume you have 12 total targets in a course of fire. All of those being paper targets, and requiring two hits per target. That's a 24 round course. In our outlaw semi auto division you are only allowed to load to 10 rounds total in the magazine. So depending on the way the course is setup, you could expect to do 2 reloads in that course of fire for a semi, or 3 for a 6 shot wheel gun.

ERRRRR time out - I'm only allowed 10 rounds per magazine?!?! WTF - If I wanted to play that game I'd shoot production.

I'm not sure I have enough M&P mags that will work with my magwell installed :-(

Remember it's ICORE, i.e. a revolver sport, you have a huge advantage with 10 rounds, the wheel guys will have at the most 8 rounds.

I'm not worried about how I score honestly - I'm just thinking from a practice standpoint - with my magwell on my M&P factory mags do not work - and I only have 4 mags with base pads on them - guess I'll just pray for the best - no malfs or anything...

You'll probably be good with 4 mags.

I won't be able to make this one but the last time I shot ICORE we were limited to 8 in each mag.

Last time I shot ICORE with my semi and did not have enough mags I was allowed to fully load mags but had to drop the mag into my hand, touch my mag holder with the mag and reinstall after each eight rounds. Fun.

Not quite sure why they are making semi users only load to 8 rounds, it's not like we are competing with the wheel gun guys. I mean my reload will be faster then a moon clip reload.

Are they doing it so all semi users, i.e. single stack guys will be on a level playing field?

Don't matter how many they limit, I am just ready to shoot! Honestly, I am just glad they are allowing semi's to shoot at a wheel gun event.

Cliff - there is a chance I'm going to go to Area 4 - can I shoot this just for "practice" and not limit my mags to 8? Still pay and all just not really worry about my score?
