New shooting rest.

Post by jerry letson on Thu Aug 18, 2011 7:37 am

http://thegrouper.webs.com/ I wish I would have joined this site last year when I first heard of it but I thought that I was to busy with life and making a living. I could have gotten a lot of good tips from the members from what I have seen and read so far.
I have invented a new recoil free shooting rest that I hope you will like. It has taken me around 3 1/2 years to get to this point and a lot of headaches. It would be great if you would take a look at it and give me your opinion. If you would like to shoot on it I would be glad to meet you and let you try it out. I have shot a 3 1/2 inch turkey gun, 300 ultra mag. and everything below and no one has felt any recoil yet. The youngest was a 13 year old boy and I am going to get a young girl to shoot the 300 on it next and make a video.
I tried to build it so the average shooter and hunter could be able to buy it. Well I hate to say but it cost more than I wanted it to. I am still looking for ways to cut the cost of making it. The price right now is $675.
I am not a big company, it is just me. My brother was in it with me but he droped out several months back. Please take a look and give me your opinion.
Thanks, Jerry

If I had the collection of high power rifles I used to have, this would definitely be on my want list. Looks to be very well made, and a good platform for scope sighting. How much does it weigh in it's present configuration? Not sure I could utilize it from a wheelchair, but it sure looks sweet...as does the foxy lady who demonstrated it. Smile

It weighs around 25 pounds. I did not think about someone in a wheelchair using it. I bet we could build a shooting table that would work. Besides you do not have to get behind it to shoot. You can put your cheak against the stock from the side, make your adjustments, raise up and squeeqe the trigger.
Thanks for taking a look. If you would like to try it for the fun of it I would be glad to bring it to you.

My van is at J's Mobility right now having the lift fixed...then it goes back to the shop to fix a leaking filler neck assembly...so it will be a while. LOL

I think there are a lot of folks at Magnolia R&P club that might like one of these at their disposal, I just joined and not sure, but I think one could be secured in the club house. Maybe we could arrange to have a few rifle shooters there to try it out. Since I can't help out with all the work details that have been going on there. I wouldn't mind donating it so all the members could have access to it.

I would be glad to meet you and everyone that you can get to meet me there any afternoon to shoot on it and try it out. My work schedule is Monday-Friday from 7:00am until 3:30pm. I could get to the range a little before 4:30. At the present time I am working every Saturday and Sunday and do not get off until 4:30. If we can work out a time around my work schedule I am all for it. If I need to I can meet someone on several different days if necessary. The more people, the more guns the better it will be.
Thank you for your interest in it.

Sounds good, as soon as my van is out of both shops, ( enter favorite cuss word here lol), I'll start a thread where everyone can jabber and find a good day and time for folks to meet and try it out.

I am glad that you haven't bought a rest from me yet because things have changed a little since we talked last. I am reducing the price of the rest to what it cost me to make them so I can try to get them out where people will try them and spread the word on how good they are. I am confident that if anyone gets behind it and fires one round they will be hooked. The new price is $550. Please let me know if you are still interested.

Tell me if I was wrong! I know a couple of people who are what you would call expert marksmen without the aid of any shooting rest or anything. With that said I see and know hunters that will spend thousands on 4 wheelers, 500 and up on camp dues, 500 and up for a rifle and scope, buy a troctor and implements to plant food plots and the list goes on. Competition shooters will also spend who knows how much trying to get the right load. I had tried some of the cheap shooting rest and was never happy with what I had so I decided to make a rest that would last a lifetime and that took the human error out. Not only that but it will let you know what your rifle and bullet are doing in as little as two shots saving who knows how much in the cost of bullets. Most people always shoot with a friend or two and I thought if two or three people that shot together went in together and bought the rest it would not be that much each. I have talked to people at gun shows that have bought the more expensive rest and are not happy with them, they damage the stock or do not work that good. I have offered to bring my rest to you and let you try it for free but only SilentHitz has showed any interest. Will anyone else give you a chance to try their rest before you buy it? Let me ask you this, how many times have you heard or said after you have shot a the big one and missed or tracked him and hoplfully you found him that you or they said maybe my scope is off? This rest eliminates that comment and puts it back on you. My question is are you going to spend all of your money on 4 wheelers, camp dues and the list goes on and not go in with a buddy and buy a rest that will let you know without any question that your rifle is dead on? Tell me if I am wasting my time or if you are. All I am trying to do is get some feed back and I do not mean to ruffle anyones feathers. God loves us all and we should love each other also.

I for one have no need for the rest, I shoot 308 for hunting and the recoil is not bad at all and know my rifle is on and how low it is shooting at ceartain distances . I practice with my rifles and would rather really KNOW how to shoot than let a rest do it for me. and would rather spend the money on something else.

personally i think it may be a good thing for a group buy or someone who is making there own loads for competition.

but for a person like me the common guy who hunts a lil and loves to take his rifles to the range for shooting and bettering himself. i like to shoot sitting standing prone kneeling off center anyway i think i may have to shoot from a stand or walking in the woods. it would do nothing for me. mainly because i need real world info from my shots. the difference between remington and winchester or tulla ammo in my different rifles.

i will say its a nice and sturdy looking well made shooting vice. you did a great job. and people will buy it if it fits there needs and budjet.

Thanks SilentHitz for the info and I would still like to build a shooting bench that someone in a wheelchair could use. Maybe we can try when time permits.
Now dhollis51 you are the expert marksman that I was talking about who would not be caught dead behind a rest. I admire and respect that and hope that we are always on the same team. I have some friends that feel the same way. Did you look at my web page, watch the video and read the testimonials? If you did you would know that I built this rest for the purpose of making sure that your rifle, scope and bullet are working together as one. Then you take it out of the rest and shoot at different ranges and weather conditions to see how you shoot.
It can also be used for women and children who are starting out to learn the basics of shooting and not get gun shy because of the recoil. It can be used for people who have several guns to sight in where they can do it in one day without being beat to death by the recoil.
I shoot a 300 ultra mag, you know how much money that I save on ammo using the rest and there is no pain. I am an ex-marine that went through sniper school probably before you were born so I know a LITTLE about shooting but I am no expert on the subject.
A small child can use the rest because you do not have to get behind it to shoot, you can do it from the side.
And butch86 I agree with you, I could not afford to buy one by myself, I would have to go in with a friend or two. I am looking into other ways of reducing the cost of making it.

I am NO EXPERT by no means and I did look at your website and watch the videos, talked to you at the annual meeting for MRPC and at the meet and great that you brought the rest to. but I am very familiar with my guns and optics and they shoot great with me behind them. might not shoot great with someone else but I shoot them and I know how they shoot. as far as seeing if they all work together I believe they do. could they be better yes, could your rest help with that im sure it could, but at the price, it is out of my price range.

I'd love to try it out at magnolia, but I can't afford it and don't want to mislead you in anyway. I'd like to shoot a few of my handloads and see which is best, but I'm a poor man trying to do rich people's fun.

Thank you dhollis51 and everyone that has taken the time to look at the rest. I wish you all the very best in what you pursue.
BigDaddyQ I would be glad to let you try your handloads out on the rest. I do not mind helping you of anyone else out and I would not feel that you are misleading me. If you want to bring some friends that is ok to, I don't mind. Just let me know so we can work out a time.

You are a tough bunch of men and women. I have tried to make a little profit and I mean a little but now I am going to take a big loss if you are interesred. I will take 400 for these in order to get people to try them and start talking about them. This is the best deal that you will ever get. If you you don't believe that this is a deal I will loan you one to take to shop of your own and get a quote on having it made. If you can deat the price please tell me where this shop is.
Thanks for your time.
