Looking for scope recommendation for 308
Beginning to shop around for scope for a 308. It will sit on top of a M1A Standard most likely with a Bassett mount. Will upgrade to an aftermarket barrell next spring. Right now shooting with irons. Have a NM front sight & a NM rear on the way from Midway.
Want to effectively reach out to 800+yds.
I own a Leupold VXIII 4.5x14x50LR with the Boone & Crockett reticle, and really like this optic on my Rem 700, but feel more magnification is needed for longer ranges.
Does anyone own or have experience with the Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm LR/T M1 Illum. Reticle? It runs around $1500 and I think that is a good budget for this scope/application.
Other recommendations are sought after & apprecaited.
Thanks!

The most expensive scopes I own are a MK4 3.5-10X40 M2 and a NightForce NXS 5.5-22X50 both are on 308's. The MK4 is great glass but out classed in every way by the NightForce and it was only $200.00 more.

+1 on the Nightforce i have the 12x42x56 and also a VX3 6.5x20x50 not quite same glass as the mk4. There is no comparison between the VX3 and the Nightforce. The nightforce is amazingly clear. I would spend the extra $ on the nightforce for sure.
