Todays Pawn Shop Rescue
Rescued this 1985 .30-30 Win 94AE from a pawn shop today. Whoever owned it shouldn't be allow to own any more guns. I can't imagine letting one get in this condition. Luckily there is no rust inside the action or the bore. I'm fixin' to start tearing it apart. It's gonna be a long night. The scope has got to go. 94's don't look right with a scope. It does have a nice leather sling. He said that if I would buy the sling he would throw the gun in. I like deals like that!!

Man, that's a shame somebody let that happen. Maybe it was in a house that flooded or something.
What scope is that?

I was amazed that they were able to get that much rust on the outside and none inside. All the parts are in a box now. The inside and bore were full of oil and dirt. The bore looks perfect after it was cleaned. The wood is not in bad shape but I'll probably refinish it anyway since I want to steam the dents out. The scope is a Simmons Deerfield 3-9x32. I've got a box full of scopes that I've pulled off of guns that I need to advertise on here. Most of them would be perfect for .22's.

.22fan,
Too bad you don't live closer to MCComb. I have a wire wheel set up on a grinder that is so soft you can put your fingers in it and it won't hurt your hand. It peels rust off without damaging the surface of the metal.

Wow. I've never found one that soft. Do you remember where you got it? That would speed things up. I usually remove the rust with 00 or 0000 steel wool, Break Free and a lot of time.

Finally finished this thing. Was able to steam all except for a couple of dents out of the wood then finished it in tung oil. After getting all the rust off the only pitting was on the right side of the receiver. The rest of it cleaned up good.

It looks like it might have been in a tornado......I cleaned about 30 rifles and shotguns after the Smithville tornado that looked like that....some worse.
