Re: Best .22 LR ammo
what are you trying to do with it? general plinking, 22 fclass, 50 yard off the bench? general plinking get the federal bulk pack from walmart. 22 fclass/50 bench or what ever accuracy event you gonna have to try a bunch of them out till you find the one your rifle likes.
hope this helps

If it is new, I would just shoot some of the cheap (relative term) lead ammo in it ... I would try to stay away from the copper plated stuff ... 22s shoot lead!! After you get 'er broke in a little; try some of the higher grade stuff and see what she likes the best ...
Have fun!! is the main objective!!

Both of my 10/22s like the Federal 550 bulk packs from Wal-mart because thats what I shoot(And the cheapest stuff I can find/$18.97)but then again I haven't found much a 10/22 wouldn't cycle.

I was wanting to see how accurate my 10 22 is capable of at 50 yards. It is not actually new just new to me. I have shot tons of squirrels. I've just always shot the cheap stuff. Just wondering, what's wrong with shooting copper plated ammo?

Just plain old target/plinking shooting I use Winchester Wildcats lead bullets, I use CCI bullets for hunting.

Re: Best .22 LR ammo
Aside from the bulk pack if the expense(and it is an expense trust me) of the
really high dollar stuff like Lapua and Eley and some others such as the F-Class
22 folks use, at 75 yards I get just over .5 inch groups with W-W Power Point
and nearly that good with W-W HV HP hunting ammo at at a much lower cost
in a Ruger M77/22 but you should still try as many brands and variants as you
can anyway since a .22 is so unpredictable about what it will shoot well, you
never know, the one you pass up might turn out in the end to shoot.3 inch groups.
One I'd avoid like the plague though is that Aquila stuff made in Mexico, its
filthy and in about 5 out of 50 on average rounds, goes FFFFFFTTTTTT and msifires.

Re: Best .22 LR ammo
well since we don't know what the intended purpose is...its gonna be hard to say...
But I like every gun I have to perform well...no matter whether is a hold my beer watch this moment or comp. So I'd recommend what we told everyone new to 22 F class to do
I'd say go on midwayusa and buy about 15 different brands and shoot groups..I said "groups"...not just what hits the bullseye every now and then....You'll find out what brands to cull out. Then the choice is yours on how much $ you wanna throw at it
Enjoy yourself

IMHO, 22s are designed for lead - not copper or copper plated ... copper sheads and deposits in the barrel. While they seem to be "cleaner" to the eye ... they do leave deposits ... IMHO, best to stay with lead ..

That's good advice; I took 'neck's and others' advice and bought a sampling of ammo from Midway -- good move! Get your wallet ready!!!! I had hoped that my rifle would like the $6-$7 box ammo, but my rifle seems to have more expensive taste (Center-X) at $12-$13 per box ammo!

All my 22's like the high dollar ammo verses the cheap. Pull out the wallet though! I shoot Wolf match extra in the autos and Eley match in the bolt guns.

Re: Best .22 LR ammo
The ammo you are shooting in it does not really matter cause most factory stock 10/22's is going to shoot around a 1 1/2" inch group at 50 yards with any type ammo you get. The rifle will have to be worked on to get it shooting real good group's. I've taking several so far that was shooting 1 1/2" group's and got them shooting down in the mid .400's in benchrest shooting, stock rifle with stock barrel. I'll tell more later on what was done. I've customed out a few with aftermarket stuff and got them shooting down in the low .300's and mid .200's. And got a Kidd SG kit shooting down in the mid to high .100's with Wolf ME ammo. Rambo

Rambo, I'm in the process of building up a 10/22 myself and am very impressed with the KIDD products
myself but just what IS a SG kit?

Mr.45flattop,
That's Kidd's Super Grade kit that he offer's which is his top of the line rifle, with screw in barrel, his CNC'ed bolt assembly, cocking handle assy. and the fine 2 stage trigger system with his designed mounting pin's with screw's on them. The kit cost around $1100.00 and you will have to get a stock. Check back later, got to get back to work, I'm called the 10/22 man down here in Jone's county by all my friend at our club, Rambo
