Red Jacket 1911

HA! This was mentioned in passing over at the THR forums. There are lots of 1911s out there for far less than $1700. Theirs is built on an STI frame, and near as I can tell built from off the shelf parts with a matte black coating and their logo on the slide. With a 12-16 week wait time, they make darn sure your check clears before ordering the parts. I wonder how much this would have sold for before Discovery found them?

They are beyond out of their minds with those prices on their guns. Insane. $1200 AK's? Right. They will never get my business.

Seeing how well ( rotflmao ) their builds work on tv i wouldnt pay a dime for anything out of that shop. They are the laughing stock of the custom gun world. If you learn anything from the tv show, its how not to do things.

I think gun nuts like us realize there is nothing special about thier 1911. If they can sell them for $1700 to the unwashed masses, more power to them.

Well gosh. The RJF one has 30 LPI checkering and the Dan Wesson only has 25 LPI. For all that extra cash I should be getting oodles and oodles more LPI, right?

The Dan Wessons are built on Caspian Hi-cap frames. You're comparing apples and oranges. The Dan Wessons is a dedicated competition gun.

After watching a few episode of their show and seeing how Mickey Mouse their operation is, I would never purchase one of their designed/tricked out weapons.

After watching a few episodes, I'm surprised they didn't try to base their 1911 off of the Saiga action. crazy

+1 they aea Saiga nuts over there. i enjoy the show and do like the fact that they will show that something did not work. most shops in there right mind would never show a failure.

Sad, ironic thing is most all their builds dont work at first or at all. I do not understand how they have earned the reputation and abillity to charge the prices they have. A quote from another forum comes to mind... "coonass version of american chopper, but with guns."

I enjoy the show and seeing some of the outlandish stuff that they build, but I believe that I will continue to send my custom work to established custom gunsmiths. I don't care much for the idea of wondering if it is going to shoot.

The whole show is a joke! No reputable shop would let a production crew in dictating what they need to do and creating all those monstrous bullchit creations...IT'S TV FOLKS!! Everyone knows if it's on TV its BULLCHIT!! Besides I'd be done knocked the hell out of Will with the way he talks to them dumbazz boys that work for em....

Too many other well established gunsmiths around that can work on 1911's to fool with that one.

1911 is probably the easiest pistol on earth to do...trouble is, the more "custom" it is...the more unreliable its likely to be...The custom 1911's I've seen are really finicky...I won't have a gun that I can't trust to go bang every time...I don't care how pretty it is...

That said ---

Personally, If I was gonna do a custom 1911...I'd just as soon get a Les Baer or maybe get a basic pistol and take it to Clark Custom

Thomas Bullock at Surplus City Gun Range in Clinton does a jam up nice 1911 as well...it all depends on the strength of your wallet

When I see some of the nice firearms they've bas***d, I quit watching. Some guns should never touched except to get them working as designed. They don't hold to that. Would by a can of coke out of their shop.
