One cop's view on CCW
I thought this was interesting. The part about the clothing and characterisitcs is pretty funny and true.

That is a good read on what the officer expects from the gun owner. Straight and to the point.

Good info, but I wonder how many law enforcement officers will read it and how many will adjust their thinking because of it.
Opinions are hard to change and are rarely changed by what we read or what we hear.
Opinions are changed (when the get changed---which is rarely) by personally significant emotional experiences.

I didn't like the constant comparison of concealed carriers to felons.

It was more like a contrast. When they talk about what what we wear the pegged me pretty hard.

Article reminded me of some of the "profiling" that's done far as people's attitudes and such go. Hope all the other is as accurate as this was. Have to admit they have me pretty well pegged. Good read, thanks for posting for those of us (like myself) who had not yet read it.

Interesting. The similarities between the uniforms of a police officer and those an armed citizen are interesting as well. I've had people mistake me for LE before but I just assumed that the 1970's Elvis sideburns were enough indication that I'm not. May be not
Anywho. This information can also help us spot other friendlies

I find myself doing some of the things mentioned. I check my clothing when standing or sitting. I also keep my elbow against my gun especially around other people.
I don't think about it until I read something like this.

Good read, wish more LE felt that way.
I'd rather be LE but instead I'm doing something else that I don't really like but pays well. I have a stepbrother who is a cop and loves it but he can't believe I'm telling the truth when I tell him I'm jealous!

This was a great read!
Unfortunately, the ugly truth is that some LEO's believe that citizen's have no business carrying firearms. I understand them being nervous about it, I really do. There are some real crazies in the world today. It becomes a problem when said LEO decides to treat all who carry a gun like there criminals. I've seen it before on the various cop shows that are on TV. Although it does seem that this is the rare exception and not the rule, it still burns me up when I see it. Everyone has the right to protect themselves and there family. It also has a lot to do with respect. I have much respect for law enforcement and likewise, I expect to be treated with respect by them whether I'm carrying a weapon or not. Hopefully awareness/training will shed light on this issue and those few that feel this way may change there tune.
Happy Shooting!

I purposely avoid tactical type clothing when out. It does nothing but advertise that you are carrying a weapon. Once I see someone wearing a vest, another second of observation tells me where there gun is. I avoid logo clothing as well. If I can spot these things using only common sense and no special training, so can bad guys. Just regular clothes appropriate to the weather and a carry piece appropriate to the clothes. The "head on a swivel" and "back to the wall" is something I do, and I am aware of doing it, as I don't know how to observe others while my back is turned to them.
