Your budget is going to put you into a Barska, BSA, Bushnell, Simmons etc. Troll Natchez SS, Midway and Sportsman's Guide. Sportsman's Guide has a Pentax for $70 along with the BSA, NS Star and Barska's.

I'd like to recommend that you increase your standards...you will not be happy very long with a sub $100 scope even in rimfire..you will be shooting against $1000 Leupolds and $1800 Nightforces...
BSA owner....

Well I don't mind spending more on a good scope but, from what I read in another post that your scope has to be less than $100 for the sporter class.

Mueller APV is close (around $125) and a good rimfire scope.

Seem everybody budget minded likes the BSA 8-32 scope from NatchezSS for $70. It tracks good and is pretty decent for the money. I use one and like it ok. U can turn it down to 12 if you want. I use 24 on mine and not up to the 32 max just because that looks best to me.

Only "rule" is 12X max. BSA is a good start. If you want to upgrade later, so be it. They are plenty clear at 12X and 100 yds. Get up in the $125 - $175 range and you've got lots of options. I suggest going with a BSA or Simmons or similar to see how you like this. You can always find something to do with it later.

Academy Sports has the 6 - 24 x 42 Tasco Target Varmit for $89.99 If you have a Academy close by it's cheaper than ordering the BSA from Natchez after you pay for shipping.

Trust me, you'll want every bit of that 12X. On a good day I can see the holes with a 12X. With greater magnification available you can crank it up to "spot" on the bad days. Just drop it back to 12X before you pull the trigger again. Honor among gentlemen, and all that.

Nothing in the rules about cost of rifle or scope.

Re: Best 22 LR scope for under $100
BubbaT is correct. The point Ezgo was making is that you can be very competitive and have a lot of fun with a $200 rifle and a $100 scope. Add in a rest, bags & assorted knick-knacks, and you've got a complete competition setup for less than $400. Don't know any other shooting sport where you can do that.
If you have an appropriate rifle, with even a 9x scope, and are creative with the front rest/bipod/rear bag stuff, you can basically do it with absolutely no cash outlay.
And considering the vagaries of rimfire shooting at 100 yds, you can do pretty well. Oh, did I mention it is fun?

That is my main intent. I am not expecting to wow the croud with my shooting. I may clear the croud though.

Thank you for clearing up ezgo's point I still really dont intend on spending $100 on a scope for my .22. If I ever got serious about competing with a .22 I wouldn't mind spending serious money, but for me .22's are for fun.

That's exactly the right attitude, IMO. The only thing that matters is what you want and what you're comfortable with. It's all about fun.

BSA 3-9x40mm Sweet 22. Got mine on sale there a couple years ago for $47.95. They have gone up but it's still reasonable and a great scope.
