Distance to your local range/match?

Post by gmg on Wed Aug 31, 2011 2:00 am

What would you guys consider to be toofar to drive to a local range/match? Would a quality range make-up for any extended distance? Any input would be very helpful. Are they any range owners here on the forum?

Here in Vicksburg everybody who owns a gun (apparently except me) either pays deer camp dues and shoots there or lives on 200 acres in the country and shoots there or is either friends with or kin to somebody who does one of the above and shoots there.

There have been dues paying shooting ranges in the area a few times over the years, but they never last.

Last time it was shut down because the landowner got nervous about EPA (lead) issues and liability issues (being sued).

Closest place I can shoot is in Clinton at Surplus City---about 30 miles away.

There is a good one in Winnsboro, La, about 70 miles from Vicksburg.

As for me, I am 2.6 miles from Magnolia's gate!

I have 2 neighbors and no one else for 2mi in one direction and 10+ miles in every other direction. My in-laws have 100 acres about 5 min from our house. Turcotte, Surplus City and Magnolia are all 50+ miles away.

I drive 30 minutes to Palo Alto for range time and matches. I drive about 2 hours to Bogue Chitto for matches.

Southwest Gun Club's 100 yd range (+pistol ranges) is about a 15 minute drive from my house; the 600yd range (open only for matches) is approximately 28 miles from my house. We go to the SWGC 100 yd range about twice a month for practice.
Magnolia R&P is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from my house but we enjoy going there around once a month for matches.

100 yard range about 200 feet from my front door. About 12 miles to Magnolia, 1 hour to Burns 600 yard range in Bogue Chitto.

It would be nice to have these spotted on a map of the state.

I have a 100 yard range at my house, and Magnolia is about 45 minutes from the house and 10 minutes from work during the week.

I belong to a range that is about 20 minutes from my house. It has a pistol, 50, 100 and 200 yard range.
