$1,000 (or so) for TWO 45 acp
Ok I am planning ahead on my next couple of purchases. I want to get a couple of 45acp. What I am looking for are one each of the following:
Small sub-compact for IWB carry (perfer blued)
Large full size for range fun. (perfer stainless)
Keep it in the $1,000 - $1,200 range
I have 9mm auto and quite a few revolvers in .22, 357, and 45 colt. I want to get into 45 autos.
I do not have a 1911 so that will be the obivous choice for the full size.
Right now I am leaning toward
Taurus PT145
Rock Island 1911
I do have a 3rd gernation Smith and Wesson 5906 in 9mm that i LOVE so I am considering a 3rd gen for the full size 45.
Anyway looking for suggestions and opinions. Thanks

I'd be OK with a Rock
+1 on Not being a Taurus semi-auto fan
Better choices out there
I'd take the $1200 and get ONE nice 1911...I predict you won't carry it all that often ....
Small 1911's are tough to shoot well...eventually it will be a "left it"
Left it at home...left it in car etc etc. Might as well get a nice full size you can really enjoy shooting instead of 2 soso units
My 2 cents

I don't know where you guys get your hate of Taurus from. My PT 92 has 1000s of rounds through it. Have you held, shot or compared a RI 1911 to a Taurus 1911 side my side? The RI is much cheaper but for what you get the Taurus is a MUCH better value, has great reviews and will have a better resale.

He didn't ask about the Taurus 1911, he asked about the pt145, but I am a huge fan of Taurus 1911s so I wouldn't rule them out of the full size 1911 slot.
For the compact Rock Island had a compact model I'd look into

I don't hate Taurus I also had a PT 92 it was fine . As far as Rock Island , IMHO for the price can't be beat . I have shot mine in USPSA for a couple of years w/ never a single malfunction .Their customer support is unequaled . He is looking for an inexpensive 1911 , anyone that has ever owned a RIA would agree that for the money they are hard to beat. Taurus being a much better value . . . .I don't agree. Btw a PT 145 is a millennium not a 1911 .

Indeed, prices are up on them because over they years folks have found out all the bashing is unfounded. My 2 RIA Tacticals are just as reliable as any of my other 1911s...one of the best entry level 1911s on the market. He is looking for an inexpensive 1911 , anyone that has ever owned a RIA would agree that for the money they are hard to beat.

Yeah I misread, I thought he was talking about a Taurus 1911. But still, the PT145 is a nice gun too and and the price is right. My friend has one and he loves it.

For CCW I think you should take a look at the kahr CW45 or Kahr CM45. Very thin reliable weapons for around 400 to 450. Going along with the one gun theme. I have a Para Ordinance Slim Hawg that I am very happy with. I'm not sure that there is a smaller .45ACP 1911 on the market. Not really filling the role of a range gun but conceals real well. Good Luck

Thanks guys. I am not really interested in 1 high end 1911 (yet). Have never owned a 1911 (more of a revolver guy) but do want on to see what all the hoopla is about. Can't stomach spending $1K+ on a single 1911
I am looking to get into 45acp and want one for conceal carry. Figure I could get one of those pretty cheap and also make the entry into the 1911 world.
I think I am pretty sold on the RIA 1911 but still trying to decide on the sub compact 45. Anyone have any additional info on.
Taurus PT145
Karh CW45
Bersa 45
S&W Chief's 45
Espically the differences in Size, Realiability, & Accuracy

I already chimed in on the CW45. It feels very good in my hand and is very similar to a Glock except single stack. I know the 36 is single stack but the Kahr is thinner. I have seen them for around 4 which still gives you 600 or so for a 1911. Th36 conceals fine the Kahr should be a pleasure here is a comparison
