Post by M1GarandFan on Mon Sep 05, 2011 7:58 pm

We will have the M-1 Carbine and AK/SKS match at Magnolia Rifle & Pistol Club on 9/10/11 at 9:00 a.m. This is a match for the M-1 Carbine only in the first relay and then only SKS and AK rifles in the second relay. Targets will be set at 100 yards and the course of fire is 10 sighters and 40 rounds for the match. Match fee is $10.00 and ammo is available at $12.00 for 50 rounds (sorry, Carbine ammo only. I might have a new shooter coming for the carbine relay if there is room left. Should be an ideal introduction to high power. Will he need the affidavit for a carbine match?

Who's loaning me a SKS? roll eyes

We might have an issue Saturday morning..... The news last night said the Pearl River will crest at 33 feet. Friday afternoon someone needs to go to the range to see if the gate is flooded. Lets hope the weather man is WRONG...................

Oh boy, I hope it doesn't. Looks like it will be a great day to have a match (minus flood water of course). Can someone go to the range Friday afternoon and check it out? I have to work job #2 that afternoon.

Shoe, I will loan you either a SKS or AK. Let me know which one to bring.

The only catch is that you will have to help clean it after the match. Smile

I was impressed with how well most of the range had drained after that heavy rain when I was out there yesterday.

Scott B. is added.

Thanks for checking on the river level Capt & DMC. Keep us posted.

Are optics permitted? I have a PSOP scope for AK rifles that I use on my AK 74. If not still might come out and shoot with open sights . . . still trying to see if I can make it up there this weekend.

Sorry, iron sights only. I hope you can join us for the match. If we have enough interest and shooters for this, we may have to start doing this as a whole separate match.

No problem, unless something comes up, (in which case I'll let you know ASAP) I will be there.

Are all AK calibers permitted? I will be using an AK 74 (5.45x39.5).

Hope it stays that way. They are opening up the flood gates at the rez tonight to increase flow.

I found some data.

Impacts as the river continues to rise

At 29.0 feet, farmland in southern Rankin County begins to flood and water begins to affect homes near the river in the Byram area.
At 30.0 feet, water backs up into several creeks and streams in the Jackson area. Water is under some homes near the river in the Byram area.
At 31.0 feet, water begins to impact approaches to additional homes and businesses in the Byram area.
At 32.0 feet, water begins to affect businesses on south President and south Farish Streets in Jackson. Sidney street is also flooded.
At 33.0 feet, Rosemary Road is closed. Sidney street is impassable. There is water on West Street in Jackson. The playing field off Westbrook Road is underwater. There is water on Nichols and Julienne streets in the Hightower area; however, both are passable and flood waters are approaching Packs Auto Detail Shop on South West Street.
