What could you expect to pay?

Post by Matt K on Wed Sep 07, 2011 11:32 am

After reading the thread about the PlumCrazy group buy I started thinking it may be time for me to get an AR. But I am AR dumb. Don't know hardly anything about them. What could you expect to pay for a decent low cost complete upper? Can't see having a high dollar upper on a $150 lower. I don't want something to go to war with, just something decently accurate and reliable. I'd want to go the light weight route with probably a 16" light weight barrel prefferably flat top for a red dot sight.

As cheap as 299.00 plus shipping. I like the handle...so I will have to pay 319.00 plus shipping.

We aren't talking a 1,000 yard tack driver here, but probably a decent 100-200 yard 5.56(223).

No bcg or charging handle included. That will cost about $100 extra.

This is the best price I've seen on a complete upper. Good deal posted by 1985 4runner.

Less than $13.00 shipping

You could pick up a Palmetto State Armory upper in 16" 5.56 NATO for around $400. http://palmettostatearmory.com/2216.php

AKParts had .22 uppers for $349. Are all .22 mags (I know not Ruger) alike? What are things to look for in a .22 upper. Do they use a lighter BCG to cycle and what other differences do they have than a convential you should look for?

not sure but you can get a conventional upper and then buy a drop in conversion to shoot .22 at the gun shows for around 150$ I THINK. not sure on the price but know you can get them.

another question, if I get the plum crazy lower and a complete upper, what else would I have to buy? a complete upper and complete lower and what else? looking to get into the AR world for low budget/get the foot in the door type build not a comp/tack driver/high $$$ build. maybe later but not now.

If you get a complete upper with iron sights then all you need is a few mags and a few 100 rounds of ammo.
If you get a flat top upper with no front sight post then you need some sort of sight. Red Dot, scope or holographic plus mags and ammo.
Or you can get a flat top with a front sight and removable/folding rear sight and be able to mount optics and use iron sights.
Hope this helps.

It also is 1/7 twist if you want to shoot heavier rounds. I would get this for sure. Bravo company Mid length 14.5 will be my next upper if I decide to build another.
