Address Change question

Post by stark_Zx10 on Thu Sep 08, 2011 11:30 am

I have concealed carry permit and I understand that if you move to a new address you are required to notify them within 30 days of your new address. However, I am confused as to if I need to notify them of new address due to 911 rezoning or whatever they call it. I have not changed physical location, but got a notice in the mail that my mailing address is changing. It said I will still receive mail to old address for 1 year, but then everything needed to be changed over to new address. I don't have to renew my CCW permit until 2015 so didn't really want to deal with it, unless I needed to legally. Any help appreciated.

btw, I did a search on here for "address" and "address change", but got nothing so if this is already answered somewhere on here it isn't coming up in search.

Thanks!

I just moved and have to change it. I called today and jackson office will allow change of address mon-fri so its not as big a hassel as having to only go on tuesday. price is 8 for drivers liscense and 12 for firearms permit.
Is anything changing on your address (maybe zip code)? I'd call the MHP at the jackson office at 601-987-1268 to clarify. They are more than helpful.

When I moved, I went down to the DMV that issued my permit and updated my driver's license and my firearm permit info at the same time. Just to make things simpler, I went on 'permit day.'

They charged me a reissue fee for both items. I think it was 15 bucks for the permit and 7 bucks for the DL. I know the permit was $15, but I'm not totally sure on the DL. This did not affect the expiration date for either item.

EDIT: Reread your post and just realized what you asked.

I think you have to actually go deal with them on this one. See this link: http://www.dps.state.ms.us/dps/dps.nsf/webpages/firearms_carrylaw?OpenDocument
It says: "Within thirty (30) days after the changing of a permanent address, or within thirty (30) days after having a license lost or destroyed, the licensee shall notify the Department of Public Safety in writing of such change or loss. "

Based on that, I think you should probably just go in and update the info. Even though you aren't moving, your address is changing. It's pretty painless to update anyway.

If you don't want to go in person, this link: http://www.dps.state.ms.us/dps/dps.nsf/webpages/firearms_firearmspermitfaqs?OpenDocument has some information on how to do it by mail.

when I moved I called into MS Williams the heaf of the permit dept in Jackson and he told me I could mail in a letter to them notifying them of the change, he told me I did not have yo get a new permit with the new address, I did anyway just to get everything official since I bought the house and now permanent residence at my home. that was last October so things could have changed.

The difference is that I didn't move at all. Still same house and same location. Just had a notification that they decided to update the 911 addresses and that I would have a new number associated with my location.
ie: address was 1234 Smith Street, changed to 40 Smith Street
(not my real address, but similar change)

I did follow your recommendation and called the Highway Patrol office in Jackson and they did not have an answer and referred me to my local Highway Patrol station. So I stopped in and asked one of the women working and she said I did not have to change it since I didn't physically move and that if I did want to update it I would have to come back and do it on the day that they issue permits. Which is one day a month at a very inconvenient time. So I said if it was legal to keep it the same then no point in going out of my way and spending unnecessary money to update something that wasn't my doing in the first place. Sorry so long to give an update, been an extremely busy few months.
