Went to the MHP to change address on my DL and Gun Permit
I got to the DMV today at 8:20am. Yes I was late. I walked in and they have taken some notes from Wally World. They had a very pleasant greeter. She greets you at the door and asked what you are here for and points the way. So for me its first Drivers liscense then gun permit. Take a number. So's I pull the number and at 8:20 I'm number 85. wow! Luckily they are already on number 50. So I wait. they really are pretty efficient. The thing slowing them down is the dumbasses in front of you. The greeter even tells you to have everything out and ready. So I get my DL in under an hour and go to the Gun Permit where I ask about HB 506 and I am told a bit about it, pretty much everything in that thread/posting area is right AND (to tie this in to General Firemarms discussion) I find out who all is a certified HB 506 instructor. So we here in the metro area have a good number of choices. I won't put their names up here cause I don't personally know them and don't have their permission, but you can look them all up on the MHP website. If they would like to put their name up here feel free. I'd also like to ask when you are doing another course and how much do you charge? I'd also like to say the people there are very polite courteous and in favor of law abiding citizens carrying guns.

Glad your experience was pleasant ... I first go around with the permit unit was pretty good; however, I renewal was not so much so!! VERY RUDE lady in the permit unit .... I actually became somewhat rude myself and that is not like me ....

Re: Went to the MHP to change address on my DL and Gun Permit
The guy that printed me copped an attitude about why somebody my age needed a gun and wether or not I even knew how to shoot a pistol. I came close to developing an attitude of my own and offering to show him how to shoot his service weapon, but I managed to just laugh it off.
I avoid going to MHP like the plague. My experiences there have never been all that pleasant except for my last visit to renew my drivers license. The automated kiosk was EXTREMELY pleasant, she saw to my issue quickly, efficiently, and without an attitude. I was in and out within 5 minutes.
I'm glad you had a good experience though. It seems to be a rare thing to behold.

Thats pretty much why I posted. I was pissed they closed the little storage shed on hwy 49 you could get in and out of there in a few minutes no lines ever. but it was much nicer this time than the last. I have to go back and get processed before dec 24th for my renewal on my gun permit this year. I just had to change address before the gun show this weekend as I plan on buying some things. I was wondering about the hb506 she told me to wait until i get the new liscense to get my new sticker as it will display void if you try to peel it off. its got some magic in it.

I would rather take a bullet than go to woodrow wilson. It is worth it for me to drive to Brookhaven. The WW office is a dang zoo.

Last time I renewed my D/L, i noticed that doing so online was
just $1.50 more than in person so you better believe i did that
instead of dealing with lines and morons, both there to renew
and those waiting on you. A public employee copping any attitude
other than may I help you is totally unacceptable, who in blue
blazes do they think pays their salaries for sitting on their wide
load behinds most of their too short work days anyway?

I see we have at least one forum member certified to give the enhanced permit class.
I don't see any listed in the coastal areas.

Re: Went to the MHP to change address on my DL and Gun Permit
My first visit to the place on Woodrow Wilson about 12 years for my original CCW permit ago was bad, workers who seemed to be threatened by anybody who wanted to carry a gun.
But my second visit for CCW permit renewal was great! Good people who were happy and glad to work with me.
What's the problem with listing approved instructors? Here is the MS web site:

and here is the current list (it has been posted before):

Re: Went to the MHP to change address on my DL and Gun Permit
We have several forum members who can teach the requirements of HB 506
All of my experiences at WW with the firearms unit have been without incident, I can see what yall are talking about in the DL renewal lines however...Bottom line...I think the problems lie in the "customers" and not MHP
My last DL renewal was done on the Kiosk....what a breeze

My experience getting my permit and registering to be an approved instructor was a pleasant one. Sgt. Williams seems like an upright guy, willing to help.

My last experience at MHP on WW was excellent! Motivated and courteous folks at every point along the way. No complaints. I even told the LT how well everyone performed!
