POS warning!!!!

Post by Beladran on Sun Sep 11, 2011 8:44 pm

so dad bought mom a little 357bug gun to replace her aging 32mag. after giving up on finding a good Smith for a good price he decided to try out a Taurus.. its a 605 snubbie... Today was the first time firing the pistol at my uncles house. At first glance i was not really impressed with the gun.. TONS of slop in the cylinder but i said hey at 15 feet who care's about a little slop this aint a bullseye pistol.. So we set up a target on a old rotten pine stump and start sending some 147gr termintes into the stump launched by 5grs of N350. We were originally about 25-30 yards back having fun with our 1911's and after blowing 50 rounds through that snub at that distance and not even hittin the stump let alone the target we got closer... 10 yards.. nothing... ok screw it got 10 feet from it and shot a group about 8inchs!!! about 150-200 rounds into it the trigger got stiff, real stiff. The dang cylinder was draging on the forceing cone! so we hosed it down with some remoil, played with it a minute and got it to latch fired one shot and rendered the gun inoperable. Took me holding the pistol with the latch open and dad taping on it with a leather hammer to get it to open....
Personally i honestly think something bad could have happened had we been using high pressure 357 ammo instead of my 38spl stuff. Just when i thought taurus made a good product they go and make some crap like this!

Yeah, I got turned off Taurus a couple of years ago. I bought a Millennium Pro PT140, and halfway through the the second mag I ran through it, the slide release bent and locked the slide back. It happened again a few months later, but hasn't done it since. I'm still wary, though.

That is pitiful. I have 3-4 85's and they'll minute of torso at 15 yards. Can't see how a revolver could be so bad at that distance.
Sounds like a .357 round would have been bad. That sounds like someone stripped the barrel going in and said to hell with it. Put a dowel down it and see how far off it is from the sights.
If the barrel is that far off from the receiver, sounds like a fork lift upgrade from Taurus.
As far as an auto Taurus, I got one on a debt. Traded it for a S&W 66 and never looked back.

So you have been fooled again by Taurus?

It took me twice or maybe 3 times to learn my lesson lol.

If I found a Taurus on the side of the road, I'd pick it up just to make it to the next bridge to toss it. Of course I'd check it for some useful brass in the cylinder or mag. Smile

And this comment ain't too far from the truth....

Send it back for repair. Then sell it or Gun Show trade.

Glad I know what you look like. Don't imagine it'll be for sale on the forum. Never had a bit of trouble from any except the auto I mentioned. Course I wouldn't shoot at anyone over 21' away.

You know...I have a few S&W's that shot "loose" very quick. I wouldn't be so quick to jump on Taurus. They make a great product and their warranty is even better. I have a Total Titanium 357 that I absolutely love. Yes, they have made their share of poor guns but I dont see the Sigma winning many awards either...just my two cents

Not to bash brands, but I had a rossi .357 NIB by Taurus that locked up after about 25-50 rounds of Golden Sabre midvelocity. It was locked up tight took it to Gunsmith in Eudora who said there was a crushed spring inside. After that i shot only .38+p and sold it first chance I got.

That was entertaining TEK, I know what you mean. I was enticed by price on a couple taurus products, the PT1911 would jam up tight with hollow points. The pt145 pro would jam HPs on the feed ramp. Had an older taurus revolver always had light strikes half the cylinder wouldn't pop. Then came the rossi/taurus. I hope people take this thread seriously and just shell out the extra $50-100 for a reputable brand, even Kel-tecs have never given me a single problem, but I wish they made a wheel gun.

Not to be offensive but have you owned a s&w sigma? I do and not because I'm cheap. I have shot upward of 3000 rounds through it (yes I reload) It may not be a target or award winning pistol on accuracy in the ultra small target range, however, do not bash on the gun. I know it is a close copy of the glock, a tried and true design, but does not warrant being downtrodden. Not every firearm wins awards, mossberg 500s and Remington 870s also may not win awards but I do very much doubt you would wish to be on the receiving end of either if they so happen to have their trigger pulled.

My taurus wheel gun was great, my taurus 92AF (beretta copy) wasn't worth a flip. It jammed a ton.

It appears that Taurus has its ups and downs as far as model goes. They are mostly all, as far as I've seen, based on and copies of tried and true designs. The results not always are up to par, but many are, I've shot quite a few and I must admit it was a nice experience normally.

Taurus is "defective by design" They copy a popular firearm and manage to turn it into garbage by using their designs on the innards.
