Why did I buy that Mosin Nagant??????? They are addictive!!!!!
A couple of weeks ago I purchased a MN. I have enjoyed shooting and tweaking this rifle. Saturday I ordered another one, this time with the hex configuration. While I was ordering this one, some one had pawned a Mod. 44 MN. The clerk told me the individual would never clain the rifle after the 60 days were up. So guess what??? I gonna get that one also. These rifles are cheap and they are fun to shoot.
I have always said," There's a thin line between a man's hobby and stupidity." Can't wait to get back to the range with my new toy........ <")))><

They are addictive. I have a 91/30 made in 1917 and I want another one. I have been thinking of getting a carbine. I may get another 91/30, since mine is missing the bayonet and sling.

If you think the 91/30 are addictive, just wait till you get a m44/m38...they are a blast, literally. I've had 2 now,and 1 91/30. I prefer the m44, the flames out the muzzle and the fierce bark always turn heads at the range.

man i love mine. i started with 2 a 44 and a 91/30 now i have 4 and looking at a 5th one.
i love shooting mine. i have a 91/30 i need the headspacing checked on befor shooting. it may end up going in a shadow box and hang on the wall. its been shot all to hell and back. but i only gave 45 bux for it. so no big deal the stock was worth that to me with the bayonette and sling.
i love them i say buy more of them i am ha ha

If you think they are addictive, wait until you get a Finnish Model.

My Model 39 is capable of MOA at 100 of the sandbags, with open iron sights.

I got this from a Mosin forum a while back: Mosin-Nagant: when you absolutely, positively, have to shoot someone two counties over, accept no substitutes!

Picked up a hex receiver today. Made in 1934. Not to bad for a 77 year rifle. Trigger is not as good as the 1942 I have. Got that trigger down to 3#11oz. I think this one I got today is about 12 to 15 lbs. Gotta do something to it. I was correct, they are addictive.
Doug, maybe I can find a Finnish in the near future.

I had a Mosin Nagant once. Then I had 2, then I had 4, worse than 1911's or AR's because they are cheaper.

I only have one of present, however, due to the ATF granting me a c&r ffl I believe the brothers of this fine rifle to assemble at my doorstep.

I have 3 and very fond of them. I recently refinished an M38 (short like the M44, but without bayonet). I floated the barrel, and was going to get a trigger kit but haven't gotten around to that yet. Its a real beauty. I would be interested in selling it and a tin of ammo if anyone is interested...let me know and I'll post in classifieds.

Re: Why did I buy that Mosin Nagant??????? They are addictive!!!!!
I have 3 MN rifles
1. Finnish SAKO Model 1939 Very accurate MOA at 100
2. Soviet Model 1891/30 by Izhevsk 1944 mint condition bore shoots close to MOA with .3095" Lapua D46 bullets and IMR4895 powder.
3. Chinese Type 53 (M44) carbine. Metal in good shape, stock cracked at wrist. Bought it for a project rifle.
Another thing about the MN rifles is the cartridge they fire. The Russians always use this cartridge for 300 meter Standard and Free rifle competition. It is potentially very accurate. The 7.62x54r (7.62x53r if Finnish) is a very powerful cartridge. USGI .30 M2 Ball with 152 gr bullet has a velocity of about 2650 fps. The 7.62x54r cartridge with 147 gr bullet has a velocity of 2800-2850 fps. We had a 5/8" cold rolled steel plate that we hung on wires at 200 yards. I fired 147 gr HB Bulgarian military ammo at it. The Bulgarian ammo has a lead core. I was using a SVT 40 Tokarev and it made Swiss cheese out of the plate, even though the plate was only hanging here. I figured the plate would move and not be penetrated. The .30-06 M2 ammo would not penetrate the plate.
SVT stands for Samozardinia Vintovka Tokareva or Semi-Automatic Rifle Tokarev.

I think one of the more interesting things I've heard someone suggest involved a M44, the fold-out bayonet, and a large potato.
Of course, your range would have to allow such shenanigans...
