Re: Why did I buy that Mosin Nagant??????? They are addictive!!!!!
Here's my 91/30....Yup, since it was so inexpensive, I decided to experiment and do some mods. Cut the barrel down to 23 inches (no, I don't know why I came up with that lenth!), and recrowned it. Then I made the trigger WAY better, removed the rear sight and used .22 Medium mounts to attach the NC Star long eye relief scope---by the way, I needed to "pin" the mount to the barrel, because the mount slid when I shot it to sight it in, but now it's just fine. I cut the original stock down, and used fiberglass in a can to taper the front off and fill in the cleaning rod groove. I also made a cheek-piece with the glass, too. Then I painted it in camo. I added one of those MN recoil pads (waste of money)---drilled a lot of holes in it in order to get it soft! Better off filling in the butt plate groove and getting a decent recoil pad.
Overall it was great fun, shoots real well, and it's accurate!
Also, I know where you can get more "Arsenal Refinshed" 91/30's for $110, if anyone is looking..

I'm looking for a real cheap one to cut to 16" and possibly make a folding stock for. Can't bring myself to cut a nice one, need a beater with a decent bore.

Currently own 3 of them -- 2 91/30s and 1 M44. Been shooting cast out of them lately ... NO recoil and really fun to shoot!!

Just joking man. I've changed up a couple of mine too just to make them unique.

"The Bulgarian ammo has a lead core. I was using a SVT 40 Tokarev and it made Swiss cheese out of the plate"
I had a similar experience with my first mosin. Mounted a target on a big 3 foot diameter oak tree. From 100 yards I could see that I was shooting wide because saplings behind the oak were being hit with each shot. Upon closer inspection, nope -- the rounds were penetrating the oak. The gun was shooting dead on.

I just bought my first MN last week! With all the education I've been reading from these MN-threads, I think I am educated enough to try and clean it, tonight!
