Carrying in someone else's home/property

Post by miker84 on Mon Sep 12, 2011 10:29 am

This may have been discussed before I got here, if so I apologize.

I'm not talking about hunting, just handguns. Not referring to places of business either.

How do yall handle this?
Do you ask first?

I am going to go with Concealed means concealed for 1000 Alex. All Jokes aside, I really don't hang out places that would not be cool with me carrying. Most of the people that know me know I am not going to be to far from a gun anyway.

Most Friends: No problems carrying.

Just putting myself in the other person's shoes. I can see where someone I don't know well might not like me carrying a gun around in their house.

Last winter I had to stop by someone's house on the way home (not a friend, just a guy I knew). I had a sportcoat on and was carrying OWB . While talking to him in the driveway, I adjusted my jacket and belt and Mr P220 peeked out for a second. I heard a "gasp" from the guy's wife and she scooped up their child and went inside. The guy said he didn't care, but I still felt like a jerk. Now everytime I see him he asks if I'm carrying. roll eyes

my work takes me inside a lot of peoples homes. i've never felt a need to let any of them know i was carrying. i see no reason to change things. as for friends, they don't care, and i don't care if they carry in my house. matter of fact, i would expect them too. i would rather they have the gun on them, then left outside in their truck where someone could steal it or a youngun get hold of it.

My fiance's stick-in-the-mud grandmother and grandfather had someone come to repair their tv carrying a .357 OWB openly come in...they made him go back out and leave it in his truck. Personally I wouldn't care, but for most folks I'd just think doing it that way is inconsiderate...you should at least attempt to conceal it if you're going to be in strange people's homes

If someone carries in my home of course I'm gonna hafta see it. Then we can discuss pros and cons of IWB/OWB. That's the fun of it. As for me I can't run or fight any more. So I keep a gun close. I refuse to be a victim and will do what is needed to protect my home.

I'll mention to someone in case their kids want to roughhouse with me. Just common courtesy I think. I'd expect someone to do the same coming in my house, especially for the first time. If they are in and out dropping something off, I don't care.
It is the homeowner who will be sued along with the CC guy so I'd have a talk with someone who carried and didn't let me know. I know some people who carry I wouldn't let in my house with a slingshot.

If I don't tell you it's 'cause I came to kill ya.

Like said before, I stick to the concealed part. Most of my close friends know that I'm always carrying. If I go to someones house that I don't know as well, I make sure it's well concealed.

Exactly. If you don't know that I keep a gun on me at all times then there is just obviously a reason I have neglected to inform you of it....some folks just can't handle it being one of those reasons(whether that be because of their political views, psychological reasons or maybe even a maturity issue)

With my work I am in and out of all types of homesteads and have to park my truck in unsecure locations. So I choose not to carry at all while doing my daily even when forced into some uncanny locations in and around Jackson/Meridian.. I crawl in and out of basements, crawl spaces and attics so no way to do so. I dont go to anyones house outside work without it when visiting Jackson though......jus say'n

If someone has a problem with firearms on their property...I don't go on their property. If I can't carry, I don't go there.

I'm showing up with no gun...just to see what I get. lol

Yeah, that was a pretty dumba$$ thing for him to do, open carrying like that. When I'm in someones home, I also have a hammer, a razor knife, a fixed blade knife, a screwdriver or 2, etc. A hidden gun should be the least of their concerns if I wanted to harm anyone.

Im not really concerned if home owner knows or not. If you don't want me to carry on your property please post a sign that can be read from a minimum of 15' that states "no firearms allowed". If I can't protect myself while at your home don't expect me to stop the bad men from hurting you.
