sp101 shooting left...
when I took my firearm safety course from cliff the other day, i took a few firearms with me. the one I wanted to use was my 3" SP101 in .357 magnum. After the classroom portion of the course we made our way to the range and set up for bench rest shooting.
The course of fire starts at 3 yards from the bench to establish groups, only shooting at cardboard with no targets so you can't tell much about accuracy. Good groups and we moved on. Next is a paper plate size target with a 1 inch x 1 inch "bullseye" in the middle. This establishes point of impact for accuracy, still at 3 yards from a bench rest position. I was using 158 gr lead semi wad cutters in 38 special. 5 shots, the group was super tight (for me anyway), with about 3 shots touching. Next 5 rounds was the same. Both groups were consistently about 1.5"-2" left of center. This is firing in double action mode. Cliff took notice and wanted to try. 3 shots left of center for him as well. He switches ammo and again, 3 shots left of center. All groups were tight and elevation is pretty good for it all. So he hands the gun off to yet another instructor who also, with 2 different types of ammo than we have tried, shot left of center. All ammo was 38 spl but 3 guys (well 2.5, as I don't rank on their level. Lol) shot this gun consistently left.
My sp101 has fixed rear sight and pinned front sight so no sight adjustment is possible without a grinder...
No need to change front sight height as the elevation seems to be good.
2" left is negligable at 3 yards but what's it gonna do at 15 or 25 yards. This is a "protection sidearm i carry while hunting more than a concealed carry weapon so I need it to be accurate to point of aim at a distance.
so anyway, i am going to fire the gun again, this time at 15 and at 25 yards to get a little more data for when i call ruger and see what they say. i am also going to run some 357 through the gun when doing so, so i can say i have run the gammet on ammo choices for it.
Love the gun btw. Could not believe the grouping she was giving me!
this is just a thread that i am starting to let you know what i find and in case anyone else has this problem down the road can maybe find it when searching.

That kind of kills the left-right glare idea.....
Remember, it is a close range gun, not a target gun.

True. That's why I'm gonna test it at 25 before calling ruger. If it is within a 4" circle or so I could live with it. Just want it "on" enough to be effective as maddawg protection

How's it shoot single action? The trigger on mine is on up there, wouldn't even care to guess the pull. I always shot mine single action before the wife took adverse possession of it.

Shot it today at 30 feet. 5 different brands of ammo. (2) 357 and (3) 38spl. Shot about 2.5" left so it gets worse the further it goes back. Guess it should. Gonna call Ruger Monday.

Re: sp101 shooting left...
i would bet to much trigger finger... with the gun empy, balance a quarter on the barrel and pull the trigger DAO and tell me what happens.
Re: sp101 shooting left...
Nothing happens until the hammer drops and the slap makes the penny fall off. I can stage and reset trigger over and over and the penny stays put

Re: sp101 shooting left...
Got into the package when I got home. The target was included. Looks like it is 0" - 1/2" left at 15 yards. I can def live with that. Hoping I can make it to the range this weekend to see how it does with me.

Re: sp101 shooting left...
They say what they did to it Joe? Yeah that's definately reasonable for a self defense gun. Some good .357 rounds and you can hit everyone within 50 yards. If they're father out than that, you got a good head start when it's time to run. Glad they got it dialed in for you.

All it had was some industry jibberish I didn't understand. Nothing really.

Glad they got you fixed up! Gotta figure out what to do about my LCR now. I think the front sight is just pinned, so it should be easy enough to punch out and move it a bit. Shot it today and was shooting about 3" or so left at 15 yards. Did that for me and my fiance's BIL
