Update on Tank Gunnery Observation Day

Post by TankerHC on Fri Sep 16, 2011 7:28 pm

I received a message from Colonel Hancock that he has tapped into several units shooting big bullets and more. I will be talking to him Monday or Tuesday for details.

At Shelby I assume but you are talking tanks. When I think Shelby, I think artillery. Got a friend (Marine but he's a pretty good guy none the less) who may be interested also. Let us know some dates.

Drop the barrels? Was a tanker for over 20 years, dont know what you mean. Barrels are always lowered, 120 is a direct fire weapon. Its possible to use the M1 as an arty piece with the gunners sextant and witness marks but I have never seen it.

Platoon level gunnery is Tank Table XII. Dont know if we will do that, normally for observation we will go to Tank Table VII or VIII. Individual tank gunnery qualification.

What would be really good (And Ill find out Monday) is if they were holding a CALFEX. (Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise). Then you will see Tanks, Brads, Apaches, arty and everything else working together and firing. Doubtful, but possible. Anyway, Ill know for sure Monday.

Corrected my mistake, was thinking howitzer or the like, not tanks (Duh, 1st armored division, flew right over my head. Used to have friends that'd go down there to fire artillary rounds at the neighborhoods around H'burg. They drop their tubes to fire at armored vehicles such as tanks when about to get overrun).
