And on day 126 of my epic wait....

Post by NotUndeadYet on Sat Sep 17, 2011 1:08 pm

The nice lady from the ATF returned my call to tell me they lost my C&R application somewhere between data processing and her desk. It had gotten far enough that I even have a pending license number before it got lost, but she needed the hard copies to finish the approval. So, I faxed my application in to her, and hopefully I will have my C&R shortly.

I can only say i feel so sorry for your predicament. i hope the atf resolves your issue soon. I remember when posting that i had received my c&r you stated that you were well past due, I admire your patience but hope you raise hell at the BATFE and they get their S H I T in line, an accident is and accident but after all your struggles it is inexcusable.

Eh, it happens. Something like this apparently happens often enough the she said there's a list that comes out every so often of licenses that have been pending too long, and in addition to my call to her, I was on her list to call last week anyway.

There is no excuse for someone at BATF&E to lose an C&R application while it is being processed. That is absolute incompetence on the processing staff. If you do not get your C&R within the next two weeks, I would call back and ask to speak to the Supervisor in charge of the overall processing unit. As you say, it happens often enough they have a list of pending licenses that have been in process for too long. Maybe you should contact your Congressman and have a Congressional inquiry as to why your C&R application was not timely processed. Federal agencies do not like to respond to Congressional inquiries.

The fact that they are aware of this ongoing problem, and that it has gone on long enough to establish a special report for these applications shows to me a disregard for their post.

I wish to give the atf the benefit of the doubt but how much more "checking into" can there be involved in issuing a c&r ffl than in running a ncis background check other than if the local chief leo phones for an objection to its issuance.

Call and ask for the Agent in Charge of the processing unit. I had to do that once when they got my address wrong when I renewed my C&R. I called them and they said they would correct it and get it out asap. Yeah right 2 weeks later I called and talked to the AIG of the processing and he sent my corrected license overnight.

I'm simply going to wait and see how long it is from the time I faxed it to the examiner to the time I get the license before starting a ruckus. For some reason, I haven't reached the end of my politeness on this.

(866) 662-2750 is the number to the licensing help line. The people who answer the phone can look up your application status, but you'll have to leave a message for the examiner if you have any real questions.

I applaud your patience. However, I feel that you have been wronged by the BATFE. I do feel that the majority of people they staff try their best but that somewhere in your process dropped the ball significantly and, as in any other job, mine and yours included, should be reprimanded at the least. This is a mistake that should not happen and I find inexcusable, again I applaud your patience. Hope your C&R arrives soon and without additional stress.

Woooo! My C&R came in over the weekend. Now I just have to decide what my first purchase with it will be.

For the curious, that's 142 days after they say they received it, 155 days after I mailed it.

I don't think it took that long for mine even after they had an issue with the application and I had to resend it. I would recommend a Mosin Nagant for the first purchase. Cheap and accurate with plenty of reasonably priced surplus ammo.

I agree w/ VegasSMG - get a Mosin (or 2 or 3 or...you get the point) from Pat Burns - great to deal with and responds promptly to emails and questions re her inventory. I've done business w/ Pat and look forward to doing more. Also, in the for what it's worth department, she's running a sale now - buy one rifle and get 10% off, buy two and get 15% off both - not too shabby. Check out her website at the gunsnammo link VegasSMG posted -
