How do you pay for things at a gun show?
I am just curious, when you go to a gun show and buy something for, say, $700 or $1,000 or so, how do you pay?
Check?
Cash?
Credit card?
If you buy from a dealer, they usually take plastic, but a private seller walking the floor is not likely to take a credit card.
I don't usually take more than a couple hundred in cash.
I paid for a gun (a new Steyr 7-mm rifle) once with a credit card and the guy tacked on a 3 or 4% upcharge for using a credit card.
Just something I wonder about.

I try to have enough cash on me if I go knowing I'm going to buy something in particular, if it's there.
I've never had a percentage added on for paying with a card but I've had several sellers take a bit off for paying with cash!
IIRC, there's usually an ATM at the one in Jackson, but it seems like it was stolen or broken into the night before the gun show several months back, so I don't know if they still have one there or not.

I try to take cash. Some will not charge tax with cash. And you save the 3% the card machine people charge.

Cash deals seem to be better. Green talks.
BTW - most credit processing agreements prohibit minimum purchases or charging for processing over a cash purchase. But it doesn't stop people from doing it.

I don't do gun shows any more, but I used to use good old cash.

I carry cash. That is how you get the best deals. Not just at gun shows but on any thing.

recommended cash, although some patrons do take credit. I had to do my payment for my new shotty 275 cash, and rest of 320 on credit but it was fine. The dude didn't tack on anything, and if they say they will or they wont sell whatever it is, then walk away. Not worth it honestly.

if you find something you want from a guy walking around, use your handy dandy smart phone, log into paypal and gift the money to his/her paypal account so no one is burdened with the 3% fee. thats the only way i deal with sales on craigslist if cash isnt involved.
old timers are sol i guess!

Re: How do you pay for things at a gun show?
I've always used a personal check for major purchase from a dealer. I always ask which they prefer... check or credit card. I've never had anyone turn a check down, especially when I show my ccw permit. Never have purchased from an individual on the floor. Talked to a security guard a few months back about the atm situation. Jakeg823 was right. There was an atm stolen from the Trademart just before a show a while back. They had placed it next to a window on the outside wall, close to the entrance. Seems the crooks backed their truck through the wall, chained to it and dragged it off. However, the last two shows I've attended, there has been an atm inside the main hall, next to the concession stands, NOT on the outside wall.

Yeah, I carry cash. If I going to get some supplies (back when you could get supplies cheaply and carry just a small amount. Backfired on me once. Got a deal on a rifle. Gave the guy 20 bucks to hold it. Had a M.O. from Jitney Jungle (yeah, long ago). Went to the one of Fortification, they said they didn't cash M.O. I showed them the J.J. logo but still wouldn't cash it. We had a branch in the South Walmart and I was able to cash it. If not, no gun and no $20.

I always figured that if I didn't have the cash or trading material, I didn't really need whatever I was itching for at that time. Personally, I wouldn't accept a check from someone walking the floor. Been burned once before.
