147gr for M1 Garand

Post by walkiahgunman on Mon Sep 19, 2011 9:01 pm

I bought a few 147gr FMJBT .30 bullets from Lt. Dan with the intentions of loading them for my Garand. I can't seem to find any load data for this weight of bullet for 30-06. I know it's original application was for .308, but I got them figureing I could do a little plinking with them. Anyone got any suggestions on where to start with these with IMR4895? Help would be greatly appreciated.

You could start around 45 grains I think. For a 150gn bullet I found a starting point of 45.6gns.

Doug is spot on with specs of 48 grains. I use 46 1/2 simply because that works well with my 168's and I don't have to mess with my powder measure. I'm lazy and hey, it's just shooting paper not going to war.

Thanks guys! Figured it would be around 48 or so. I usually load 47gr with my 150 FMJFB. I didn't think it would be far off from that but I wanted to query the experts, especially dealing with my 70yr old M1. Again thanks for all ya'lls help.
