Colt Ace Conversion Unit

I picked up an older Ace Conversion Unit. I only have a one Colt 1911 and it is a Commander. Can the unit be fitted to one of my Kimber frames or should I start looking for a dedicated frame for it?

So far I have tried assembling this on three different Kimber frames. On two the ejector is too high. On one there is a small part beside the disconnector/sear assembly that protrudes through the frame. I removed that. Now the slide fits on and moves freely until I put the barrel in place and insert the slide stop. At that point it is too tight and the slide will not move without a lot of force. Does it have to be a Colt frame or does it need to be fitted by a smith?

When you posted earlier, I look around some of the 1911 boards and most said the Ace would work with early Kimber frames but not the new ones with the firing pin safety, I am assuming early Kimber frames were Series 70 style frame? I think it needs to be a Series 70 frame.

I guess I need to pick up a frame for this Coonversion Unit. Either that or sell it and start looking for anAce Pistol. Thanks Bubba.

Sorry - Can not help you much with the Colt; however, if shopping - a guy at the range yesterday let me shoot his CZ Conversion -- talking about someting that was "sweet" - it is nice!! Had to come look it up when I got home -- I see this as one added to my WANT list ...
