Remington 587 597 Question.

I have not exactly been living in a cave, however will someone give me the lowdown on the Rem 587 or 597 or whatever it is in .22 WMR. I had a friend call today that is working in Virginia and went to a gunshop today and found a Rem 587 .22WMR he thinks, and called asking if I thought it was worth 300.00. My reply was I have never heard of one but would love a .22 WMR auto. I started reasearch and am confused since it is listed on Rems website MSRP for 587 bux. There are none on Broker or anywhere else. Then I find on a forum or two they are making noises about them, as well as the .17 HMR caliber model, being recalled account of problems akin to the 10/22 magnums. I suggested he buy it for kicks and grins if for no other reason since the Ruger's price went through the roof when they were pulled. Any informed information would be appreciated.
