mini "range" report of Ruger LCR .357
well the folks that live around me that complain a lot about gun shots are all gone today, so i took the opportunity to test out my new LCR.
First off I bought this gun to be a pocket pistol, I don't expect great accuracy out of it, I just expect it to provide adequate firepower and keep the bad guy off of me. I didn't buy this as a range toy/paper puncher.
My brother and I set up at about 7 yards~ and put a water bottle on the burn pile. I put two federal .38s in the cylinder and three .357s(saved 3 .38s and 2 .357s for my brother). I went with such a small amount because this was more of a function test than anything. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to blow up in my face in my time of need!
The first two .38s went so smoothly, it was quite pleasant. I'd say comparable to .45acp rounds out of a govt model 1911, which i'm quite used to.
then came the .357s.........(insert Rick Flair like WHOOOOOOO here).....now thats a bullet! I've shot light weight .357s before and they don't bother me that much. this was a bit more tolerable, but I could definitely tell I had a big boy bullet in a little girl gun. Felt a good push, and it stings a bit, but still tolerable.
One problem: It shot a inch or two to the left for both me and my brother. Now this could be because of our inexperience with DAO revos, or it could've just been the ammo, but as long as I use it at defensive distances I don't foresee this being an issue.

so as of right now i'd say this gun is perfectly fine for its intended purpose, but i can tell you that i won't be putting a lot of magnums through it for fun!
can't wait to make it out to the Mag to really put it through its paces!

You said Its pulling left are you left handed or cross eye dominant? I could be wrong, but I always thought if you were pulling to hard due to not being familiar with DAO you usually pulled to your trigger hand side. Left is usually a result of not enough finger on the trigger. And again I could be exactly backwards on this so someone else back me up or tell me I'm WAY off.
Oh and I agree at the distances you'll be shooting it won't matter. you probably won't even use the sites.

I'm shooting right handed and eyed, but good observation otherwise. Same with my brother.
And good point about not using the sights.

Do a lot of dry fire work with it. Really improves your trigger pull. I've shot a few of them, and they are fine weapons.

I plan on it. It's a pretty assisting trigger. Plus I'm used to dry firing SAO guns so this requires much less manipulation to dryfire

My fixed sight SP101 shot left. I sent it back to ruger but I need it to be accurate at further distances than defensive distances. I also have a lcr in 38 but I haven't tested it for accuracy so much as its intended purpose is the same as your LCR

Got the boot grip for it in the mail today.......hmmmmm......bit scary. It had some bite with the tamer grips, but it was still very tolerable, but this one is so small it's got me a bit worried....
It should definitely conceal better in my pocket now though.

The front and back straps are the same rubber material as the tamer grip, and the sides are plastic....might have to attempt stippling eventually.

My ring finger barely fits on the grip so someone with large hands/fingers would really have trouble getting more than their middle finger on the grip. But I have small hands so it's no biggie for me

Re: mini "range" report of Ruger LCR .357
Did another short backyard session this afternoon. This time with the new boot grip. .38s were still pleasant as could be and the .357 wasn't noticeably worse than they were with the stock grip.
Both me and my fiancé's BIL shot it. He really loved it, which is huge because he's a big bore kinda guy(loves his .44 mags). It still shot pretty far left for us, today we were at about 15 or so yards due to the area we were shooting in being so overgrown.
For anyone curious about the magnums out of this gun I'll describe it as this, the first two are easy, but it's the three after you kinda have to force yourself to do. Still not painful, but not nearly as pleasant to shoot as the .38s
While we were out there his two sons(who are 6 and 4) wandered up behind us and wanted to try them(only had my LCR, his super redhawk .44mag, and my AR)... Initially we were pretty hesitant, because they definitely weren't ready for the .44, and I just didn't want to risk them pulling something wild the the AR but the oldest one(6) has shot several of his dads guns(mostly .22s) before, and he loves to shoot so we gave in and allowed each to fire off one .38 special.
They both got a huge kick out of getting to shoot a bigger(ok not size wise, but larger caliber ha) gun, and neither dropped it crying or anything like that, so I'd say it was a success! I love having them come shoot with us because that wasn't something my dad ever did with me(we only had a single shot .410 in the house until he died and then my mom says we went crazy) so I like feeling like I'm passing it on to a younger generation to some extent, although their dad has a much bigger influence in that than I ever will, I'm just glad I can be there to help it be that much cooler because uncle Jake does it too
