Most Popular Division in the area and at Magnolia
I have participated in Clash of Metal and Outlaw Steel several times at Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club. I used what I already had: a stock Glock 17 and purchased USPSA Production legal belt, holster and magazine holders. It is difficult to shoot USPSA on Sundays at Magnolia because of Church activities but I want any future equipment purchases to be competitive in the most popular USPSA Division.
Planning to keep the Glock 17 rig but now researching another competition handgun purchase. No more polymer competition guns for me unless really a good deal. Just too light for me when shooting a high number of rounds. A side note is that I need another rig for the kids to shoot when they are home from college.
The question is which USPSA Division has the most Competitors every Month at Magnolia and in this USPSA Area? Going on what I saw at the Steel matchs it is Production?
Thanks for any input,
If you had rather respond directly my e-mail is atomicbrh@hotmail.com.

I'd say production is the most popular but Limited close behind.
I used to shoot production but the limited game is much more fun. It focuses more on shooting instead of reloading every time you move. And it's much cheaper to get into than you would think.
Here is a link to this years match results where you can see the breakdown of the divisions and the numbers in each.

Fun to who?
Cheaper?
I had 8 grand in my two Limited rigs when I got out in 2000. You could shoot Limited with a High Point, but most don't.
How much do you have in that hot-rod of yours, Will? Gun, belt-gear, mags and all. I have about $1800 in my CZ rig....turn key, race ready.

The hilarity and timeliness of this statement can only be fully appreciated by mr Mullendore and myself.
I think he was more referring to the ability to take something like a glock 35 or an m&p 40 long slide and slap a magwell and extended basepads on. Depends on your perspective concerning the "shooting". There is definitely more focus on the action of shooting in limited (Maybe not necessarily te accuracy) because of magazine capacity and the ability to avoid reloads. So by comparison you do spend more time shooting than you would in production. Nobody can logically make the argument that production isn't fundamentals and accuracy heavy.
Whether or not limited is more fun. Chocolate and vanilla. I'm a nerd, I like reloads, I like the extra complexity in stage planning it adds. Im not going to say I don't like limited, because I haven't shot it. But as of right now, I'm very happy with what production has to offer, and being the largest division by far, the field of competition is very vast.
In regards to the op's original question. Production on average has the most shooters per month. As for gun, I drank the koolaid, the cz shadow is the bomb. Next to sig and beretta they are really the only competitive full metal production guns. In fact a beretta 92 won nationals this year. Doesn't mean I would recommend one, just saying. Of the full metal guns, the shadow seems to sve the most popular nationwide.

Exactly. My entire M&P setup had less than $1100 in it.
I didn't mean to step on any toes with the "Limited is more fun" comment. What I should have said was Limited is more fun to me. Remember, I shot production for a while too. It's definitely fun. Cliff routinely beats me with his production gun so the gun won't slow you down.
And Justin, it looks like we need to go ahead and finish our little project.

I hear what your're saying about getting in a less expensive Limited rig. Glock, M&P, etc. But, why did you switch and what did you spend?
Re: Most Popular Division in the area and at Magnolia
I switched because at the time I thought "better" equipment would make me better. Did the equipment make me shoot any better? Maybe a little bit but not a noticeable increase. I just started practicing more.
My current setup was almost $4k.

Cool. Well, you are certainly doing the equipment justice lately with your wins in TN & Area 4.

WAIT A SEC - spending more money on a gun won't make you better - wish someone would have told me this bout $2500 ago (before mags) - damn you Will

Maybe having to count shots and reload makes you better!

Re: Most Popular Division in the area and at Magnolia
I've owned 6 sinlge stack 1911's, 3 of them were Open guns...2 Hi-cap 40 Limited guns, 2 Glock-17s and a CZ for Production, and 2 8-shot Smith & Wesson Performance Center guns for ICORE.
Every time I sold, swtiched...moved whatever....It was all about getting a better platform....to do one thing:
Win.
That's why shooters build better hot-rods.

It's not about how good you shoot. It's about how good it looks on YouTube.

Counting shots makes you think a little more. I remember when I use to think. I think? Will, I have for some reason missed the dirt dive. I must say it has lifted my spirits on this rainy day. Hope to see you at Mag this Sun.

I shoot Limited because it's the best division and the most fun.
Also, I spent next to nothing on my Limited gun but so far I don't think it's holding me back any.

Re: Most Popular Division in the area and at Magnolia
I think overall limited is more popular. Most matches Limited has more competitors. Nationals for instance - Prod - 143 competitors - Limited - 228 competitors; Area 4 - Prod - 56 competitors - Limited - 87; Area 6 - Prod - 81 competitors - Limited - 103 competitors.
Its all about what you enjoy - Production is popular here in MS - overall I would have to say Limited is more popular (look at the numbers)
