Sitting here watching "Couples Retreat" and Vince Vaughn has this gun case....

Post by TankerHC on Sun 25 Sep 2011 - 22:14

It was in his drawer so its about the same size as a standard 1 gun case. It has palm and finger indentations, he placed his hand in it, it read his palm and fingerprints (Im guessing) and opened. Anyone ever seen one of these, it looked like something you could buy. Just curious as to what something like that would cost. Looked around the Web, didnt find one.

Never seen one with the palm, but there are quite a few available with the finger print I believe. Made by Gunvault? I know Gander Mountain in Hattie used to have em. Supposedly they work really well, and have a key backup just in case. This may not be what you're talking about, but I never noticed that in the movie so I'm just spit balling here

Movie magic. The real ones have finger grooves, but there is a button on the tip of each finger. You push the combination in sequence. It doesn't read fingerprints.

Yeah, we got the finger ones at work. Don't think they are real high. Be cheaper to get the ones where you punch in the series of finger punches though.
On the finger print design, wash you hands, put on hand lotion, ect. and they can't read them. The finger punch ones are more reliable, they don't care who punches in the sequence.
Hollywood likes to show off gizmo's that don't exist to the public.

And some are true biometric safes that can store up to 30 different fingerprints. BarsKa has some as well as gun vault.

Went back and looked again. It has the finger imprints, it only showed him touching the index finger, the case/safe beeped and popped open

Gunvault makes one that reads the index fingerprint.

Pretty cool. But I don't think I'm going to trust one of those just yet. It says they have a low rate of false reads. Only takes one false read when you need it. So far my keypad has been 100%
