Any Right Handed Shooters that are Left Eyed Dominate on here..

My nephew is.. He is right handed but shoots left handed.. I think my 6YO is going to be the same way.. I'm looking to buy him a little shotgun for dove and ducks. Something like the little Mossberg Mini 510, but I am not sure if having a left handed gun is an advantage or not... So I am not sure if I should get him a right handed pump, or spend the extra money for something like a BPS that is bottom loading or go for an O/U....

I am right handed buy left eye dominant. I shoot handguns right handed and long guns and bows left handed (screwed up, I know).
I have tried left handed rifles (bolt actions) and they just dont feel right to me. I have become accustomed to working the bolt and you would be suprised how fast you can become.

I was born left handed and left eye dominate. My dad was a basketball coach and when I was young they took everything out of my left hand and put it in my right. He said at the time he hadn't ever saw a really good left handed basketball player. That was a few years before Larry Bird. I learned to be right handed. I'm still left eye dominate. It is second nature to shoot with my right eye. I don't own a left handed gun although I can shoot left eyed also. I swing a baseball bat better from the left hand side but play golf with right hand clubs. I also write right handed. Teach him to shoot both ways. There are some things I do better with my left hand and some things I do better right handed but after 45 years I consider myself to be right handed.

I'm left handed and left eye dominant. I've never owned a left handed gun. At the vintage bolt action match I'll get my ten off in 70 seconds with reload, no sweat. It only looks hard.

To be honest some guns like an AR-15 I wonder if they were designed for a lefty. I can see in the chamber and drop the bolt much easier than a right handed operator. The sight knobs on the M1 and M14 have the windage on the right and elevation on the left. Elevation is what I always screw with when changing range.

The mag release and slide stop on a 1911 are a breeze left handed, although the safety sucks.

As for shotguns, don't fret, bottom loaders are easy to operate left handed. I've been shooting 1100's all my life. Think about it's operation. Once initially loaded when it's empty the action is locked back, just roll it over, drop one in the chamber and hit the bolt release on the bottom. Loading the magazine is the same for everyone. Having the triggerguard safety reversed would be nice, but it's not a big deal. I just hook my middle finger around and I'm good to go.

Once you teach him to get the first shot on target, it doesn't matter, right?

I have 20/70 vision in my right eye and 20/10 in my left eye. Due to my non-correctable vision I shoot long guns left handed. When I first started shooting at 5 I was small enough to contort my head so I could see down the sights with my left eye while shooting right handed. By 12 I had to relearn how to shoot.

I don't own a single left-handed weapon and just learned to make due with what was available. Maybe one day I'll get something more ambidextrous.

I'm in the same boat. For some reason, I have never had a problem with handguns, but iron sights on a long gun cause problems for me. If I take my time in aiming, it isn't that bad, but if I try to get off a quick shot, I often find myself going to the left eye.

Same here Left eye dominate but right handed, just don't give it much thought shoot everything right handed and right eyed, guns, bows, pistols just learn to adapt. just don't shoot pistols with both eyes open as they say u should for close quarters. Iron sight have become harder with the need for reading glasses now, rear sight quite blurry now.

I've got the same problem. I learned how to shoot shotguns and rifles left handed. The Mossberg works really well because of the safety position and is not bad to throw shells back in you face. I will not shoot a right handed simi-auto because of the "what if" factor. Don't want to take any chances with the one good eye. I still shoot handguns right handed but that ain't very much to brag on. Really need to improve on that!!
