Here are the results from today's HP match at Southwest Gun Club's Bogue Chitto range. The wind was a big factor today, especially back at 600:
NAME RIFLE200OH 200RFS 300RFP 600SFP AGG %
Colby Ortega AR 74 94-1X 95-3X 152 415-4X 83%
Alex Zinke AR 78 94 87 145 404 80.8%
Bill Ogletree AR 77-1X 75 85-1X 158 395-2X 79.0%
Phillip McGregor M1 73 88 87-1X 124-1X 372-2X 74.4%
Tony Ortega AR 80 83-1X 64 127 354-1X 70.8%
Clarence Guthrie M1 55-1X 76 65 150-1X 346-2X 69.2%
D.C. Alcantara M1A 70-1X 75 49 58 313-1X 62.6%
Johnny Morgan M1A 57 78-1X 64 91 290-1X 58.0%

Congrats especially to Devil Dog, shooting a stock M1 with surplus Greek ball. That is not bad at ALL!
We had a great day, hope more will come out for the November match on the 5th.

Thanks for hosting the match, Phillip! I had fun even even though I burned 4 shots at 600 trying to hit the target! Zero's noted.

The wind was brutal today, lots of fishtailing currents. It was great that you & Johnny made the drive! Hope to see y'all again next month.

Had a great time, Phillip. Really enjoyed working the pits too. Like Phillip, I burned some shots trying to get it on target at the 600 yard stage. Now I just need to record where the sights are now since I was getting in the black towards the end. Great day for a match.

Big thanks to PhillipM for giving me a lift down there.

Some suggestions for 600 yard HP rifle shooting

Post by Doug Bowser on Sun Oct 02, 2011 7:37 am

Sight come ups with a 100 yard zero, using one MOA sight adustments

100 to 200 yards, up 2 clicks

200 to 300 yards, up 3 clicks

3900 to 600 yards, up 12 clicks

These sight adjustments should have you on paper at 600 yards. It is also important to use Match Grade ammo at 300 and 600 yards. The acceptable Parameter of USGI .30 M2 and 7.62 M80 Ball at 600 yards is 20". That is twice the size of the 10 ring. I suggest the following loads:

.30-06: 168 gr Hornady or Sierra with 46 gr IMR 4895 and a WW large rifle primer

7.62 NATO: 168 gr Hornady or Sierra with 41.5 gr IMR4895 and a WW large rifle primer

Awesome day down there yesterday. Great weather and a good group showed up. Thanks to SWGC and Scharfschütze for putting this on.

We need more shooters at these things. If you are in Jackson and want to shoot this let me know. I'll provide the ride and buy the coffee. Getting in the black with iron sights at 600 is something you've got to try.

I only have a few photos to post thanks to camera malfunction and because der Junge had me take 'em with his iPhone.
First, the 600 yd line relay one:

And our M1A shooters:

And finally, in honor of Saturday being the last day of Oktoberfest in München(Munich), the German flag flew at the target shed:

Hope more of y'all can come and shoot with us next month on November 5th!

That and working the pits. Loved hearing the crack of the bullet passing over. We need to have more of our MR&P Club members join in. I should be able to drive for the next match. We can all pile into our Expidetion and ride down. thumbs up

Thanks for the info, Doug. I actually just picked up some Speer Target Match bullets.
