S&W Model 28 range report

Post by Doug Bowser on Thu 29 Sep 2011 - 11:16

Had to go to the range today, I could not stand not shooting the "new" Smith. I used 148 gr HBWC and 2.7 gr Bullseye, with a WW primer.

The target has one x, a 10 at 1 o'clock, 2 10's at 4 o'clock and 6 10's at 10:30. I shot them at 25 yards with 2 hands standing. Not bad for a blind Great Grandfather.

The revolver is a S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman .357 Magnum with a 6" barrel. They were used by the NY State Police, Georgia Patrol, Alabama State Troopers, PA State Police and a host of other Police Agencies. This revolver was made in 1970. This model was made between 1953 and 1986.

Come on, only for testing purposes. Now I have 3 S&W revolvers that are capable of shooting all 10's at 25 yards.

Model 14 - 6".38 w/ Aristocrat rib

Model 10 - 5" .38

Model 28 - 6" .357

None made before 1972. I love the S&W revolvers made before 1975. I also like to shoot without having to pick up brass.

Very nice!

Many moons ago I saw my first registered magnum at a gunshow, shipped to the Miss Highway Patrol. I should have sold a kidney and bought it.
