Ready for primitive season

Post by Caleb C on Fri Sep 30, 2011 8:18 am

I got tired of lugging around the Buffalo Classic 45-70 during primitive season. It's a great shooter but man is that thing heavy. Here's the solution. It's a NEF 44 mag. The good folks over at Dixie Precision cut and crowned the barrel at 16.5 inches. This thing is super short. May be it will turn out to be my new favorite brush gun.

Man that looks handy. Hard to believe its not a SBR by the pics. My dad has a NEF .44mag and puts down deer with it every year. Plus, it's a joy to shoot.

My idea of primitive is using the most effective tool that the great state of Mississippi will let me get away with.

They just need to rename that season. LMAO
Looked at a BowTech Assassin today.... the arrows and broadheads, sights.... 330fps right out of the box..... holy moly! Even the bows I don't consider "primitive" anymore. We grew up shooting ReCurves!!

And now.... OT That is a sharp rifle! Bet it's a blast to shoot!

I'm of the opinion that deer season should have a start date and an end date. Just put a stop to all these unnecessary splits. Just hunt with what ever you want to. Our deer population can support a lot more hunting. Game reserves could be a reasonable exception though. They have the deer but that would be the only places that I see keeping more regulation.

heck no, Bow season is so peacefull and quiet. I will fight till the bitter end to avoid that happening. I can see having a gun season from the weekend before Thanksgiving till the end of January and have a few weeks with dogs in there but leave bow season alone.

go get one of those recurves and give it a try. its awesome.

I don't bow hunt and sometimes forget that you bow hunters are very serious about it. It seems logical to reserve October for bow season and then just open everything else in November. I'm not opposed to bow hunting and I like the idea of protecting the sport. It's just the weather that turns me off. I'm not going to fight mosquitoes and snakes to go hunting. If bow season were in February I'd be all in.

I agree with simplifying the season. Muzzleloaders and bows and youth hunts should get a crack at it until the 2nd Sat in Nov. Then use what you want just follow the bag limits. Metallic cartridges, even if they are > 35 cal, are not primitive; I can't understand why they did that.

i have fallen in love with this caliber, i hunt with it a good bit during regular rifle season, I also think the 1970's classic sling adds to the overal look of the weapon.
